http://stupidhorrormovies.blogspot.com/2009/04/my-top-10-movies-i-loved-as-kid.html. What are your top 10 movies you loved as a kid?
Number 10. The Muppets Take Manhattan
I saw this movie a few times as a child and I loved it. It was so funny to me and I made my parents buy me it on video (yeah, I know...video.)
Number 9. Baby Geniuses
Apparently, this movie wasn't popular with critics or film fans but - whatever. I love this movie, it's a great film with a groovy plot. The FX are awesome and the concept was amusing enough to warrant a movie. I especially liked where the genius kids lived, very sci-fi/futuristic.
Number 8. Beauty and the Beast
My sister and I used to rent this weekly for a while, I loved it very much. The songs were great, and it had Jessica Fletcher from Murder, she Wrote (I forget her real name)! Also, it had great characters and a lovely story. Obviously, my favorite character was the Teapot but I did like the candlestick and the clock too.
Number 7. Uncle Buck
The wonderful John Candy. The Buck character here was loveable and the plot was belly-laugh-inducing. The girl as the weird Parisian teen stereotype was good too.
Number 6. Mrs Doubtfire
A cliched but necessary choice, this film is REALLY GOOD. It's funny and cringeworthy at the same time - which I love. My favorite moment was when Mrs Doubtfire threw a lime at Piers Brosnan and then blamed it on a nonexistant vagrant!
Number 5. Home Alone AND Home Alone 2
Home Alone 2 is basically Home Alone remade in NYC, which is PERFECT. I really like Macauley Culkin, it's such a shame he went all druggy and weird.
Number 4. Mean Girls
I was a young teen when I saw this but whatever, I liked all of the actresses and the plot was fun. It's like an intelligent chick flick. I was going to put who my favorite character was, but I like them all. I like Damien, Janis, Cadey, Karen etcetera, so I couldn't pick a favorite. When I first got this on DVD I watched it every day for a week, I could probably read along with the script.
Number 3. Jurassic Park
I think this would probably count as an adult movie, but I really liked it as a child. I had dinosaur toys and my parents even painted a big board of wood to act as an island. I bought army men and little figurines. According to my Mother, when I was younger I clapped and laughed whenever a dinosaur killed a human (which forecasted my enjoyment of the death of teens at the hands of killer plants/ serial killers/ weather/ whatever later in life).
Number 2. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
I first saw this when I was going to nursery (kindergarton) and rewatched it hundreds of time, unfortunately there's a couple of PG-rated swears in it (bloody hell, chuffin' heck, bleedin' gods) and the teachers complained to my Mother that I kept repeating them loudly at nursery to the other children's amusement/shock. One day whilst looking for it I couldn't find it, my Mother said that it must have fallen behind the TV. So for years after I kept everything away from the back of the TV and thought that if something fell behind there it was lost FOREVER - like there was a black hole or something. Years later, my Mum admitted why she had to throw it out and I bought it on video again. I can still watch this at anytime today, I love Angela Lansbury (she was also in B& the B above) and the SFX were excellent - better than a lot of kids films today!
Number 1. Miss Congeniality
This is not a kids movie. But I first saw it as a kid when it came out and it began my love of Sandra Bullock. This film is ridiculously GOOD, I must have seen it once a week for a year before I tired of it. Eventually I rediscovered it and kept rewatching, it's one of my sisters favorites too, and we still quote from it to this day. What an awesome film.
There's some movies here that didn't belong in the top 10 so I included them here as honorable mentions:
Honorable Mention #1: Spy Kids 2
Better than the original, I own this DVD. The creatures were the best, the SFX were brilliant and the characters was funny.
Honorable Mention #2: High School Musical
Sue me I love this film. Mainly because of Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel's characters. Some of the songs were brilliant and even though the story was obnoxious it was bearable. I only saw this recently, which is why it's an honorable mention. If it was up to me I'd edit together Ashley and Lucas' scenes from this film and the two sequels into one movie, completely bypassing the horrible Efron and Hudgens (the idiot stole my name).
