Okay, but what type of "Smart" Horror are you talking about? Horror that surprises us or is original or is dialogue-driven as opposed to action oriented?
I wonder why you chose Suspira. I thought The Hatcher Murders was more clever.
What about The Descent? Good acting, good dialogue, fast pace.

yeah smart horror is a really general term, not sure if you mean horror that makes a profound satement or horror movies just technically well made aka arthouse type stuff.

Obviously your both just not smart enough to get it!
No, I'm just using a simple word like smart to blanket movies that are not mindless/boobfest/slasher films.

Well if that is the case, I could think of dozens of films that are "smart" according to your terms.
But I prefer horror movies that are "challenging". Either challenging a viewer to come to terms with certain aspects of humanity they would rather block (i.e. Cannibal Holocaust)
OR simply a horror movie that challenges the viewer to guess a twist ending OR guess a revelation that is not forced onto a viewer (i.e. Stay)
OR guess the meaning/ purpose of a film that leaves you emotionally stunned (i.e. Irreversible).

He dropped off the planet once I started arguing with him. He couldn't hang. Only Johnny can keep up with me using his muskrat arguments.

Well, I predict that Poultrygeist is going to be a "Smart" movie. I'm judging entirely from what has been released (S-U-I-C-I-D-E!) and stuff from Andy Deemer's blog. You know, his blog was a lot more fun when he was being debased and humiliated everyday. File under E for Exploitation. I'm basing this statement on the fact that it has great [social commentary deleted] analysis of consumer culture, racism, and whatever other buttons Lloyd wants to press.
Another "Smart" movie is the Washingtonians. Well, really it just poked fun at our "sacred" historical figures.
I declare Smart Movie List dead. So, declaring time of death 10:20 a.m., April 19, 2007, I will now bring a new Smart Movie List into the world.
In no particular order...
10. The Stuff 9 C.H.U.D. 8. (And yes) Cannibal Holocaust 7. Street Trash 6. It's Alive 5. Ginger Snaps 4. Psycho 3. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage 2. Silence of the Lambs 1. They Live
