Timothy Olyphant has been around for awhile. I think the first time I really saw him was in GO. He gave such a cool performance in that. He's been around ever since, popping up in the new Die Hard, starring in a few TV shows, but FINALLY something comes along that really lets him shine. He carries this movie amazingly well, and he's damn near in every scene. Also kicking ass is Joe Anderson as the Deputy, he starts the movie off plenty bland but I promise you by the time the movie is over, he'll be one of the most memorable things about it. Rhada Mitchell is along for the ride too as Olyphants pregnant wife, who you've seen in Silent Hill and Pitch Black. She has plenty of horror movies under her belt though and it's always nice seeing her do another one. She's one of the few actresses that has no shame about starring in one.

So we start off with a hell of a solid cast and they give amazing performances, each and every one of them. They manage to make the movie feel REAL and you root for them every step of the way.

For those who don't know, this is a remake of one of Romeros lesser efforts, but really, this movie beats that one in every way imaginable. The plots pretty simple, something gets into the towns water supply and makes everyone go bug fuck insane...when the military comes in to clean it up, they of course only make things worse.

One of the things I liked most about this one is and one of my fears going in, was it was just going to be another zombie movie, but it's not. These are crazy murderous bastards, they shoot, they tie people up, they plot and scheme, they aren't just rampaging mindless entities, they talk, they get revenge and they're MEAN. This movie has real suspense in it and everytime our characters enter a new situation you just know you're going to see something cool. There's a car wash from hell,  a funeral parlor that you never want to visit and even the open road becomes a deathtrap.

And then of course there's the paranoia, is the person you're with acting crazy because of the situation, or do they actually HAVE the crazies?

It's one of those rare horror flicks that hits all the right notes at all the right places and there's even some gags I've NEVER seen before.... and trust me I've seen a lot. It's the best horror movie that's come out in a LONG fucking time. It takes a tried and true premise and just knocks it out the park.

This is proof folks...

...some remakes...kick ass.

Murderpunk said this remakes sucks?  Again, I think the previews look cool, so I would like to see it.

Sonny liked it and Murderpunk hated it. This could go either way. Sonny usually likes everything and Murderpunk usually hates everything. I'm watching this bad boy at 4:20 and will offer my EXPERT opinion later this evening.  Grin

I wouldn't say I Iike everything, fuck House of The Devil, that was a boring horrible piece of shit, same goes for The Hills Run Red, I'd rather stick in dick in a toaster than sit through that fucking imbecile movie again.

I stand by my Crazies review, thought it was awesomely solid and just plain great all around! I can't remember the last time I saw a horror movie where the audience was actually cheering for the good guys to survive as opposed to just waiting for the next death and I think I mostly appreciated the fact that it was adult horror, with adults doing adult things. I really did love it.

Chris and I very rarely disagree but I didn't think this one was that bad. I went to see it with Gary and it entertained us for its running time. While we were in the movie some black guy was on his phone and Gary yelled at him -- these fat lesbian chicks yelled at Gary and after the movie confronted us. Gary fought with them for 10 to 15 minutes calling them "dyke niggers" and making fun of their sweat pants. That fight was better than the movie!

I wish I was lucky enough to see a movie in a theater full of blacks. Sounds like a blast. I have only heard about how awesome this experience is because I live in a State with no black people. I wasn't joking when I said that talking to Gary on horroryearbook radio was the longest conversation I had ever had with a black person about anything ever.  Grin

Watched it last night...yet another pointless remake.
Characters = absolutely nothing, didn't give 2 shits about 'em.
The pacing was fast...yet absolutely boring, if that is possible.
Didn't hate it, but it was pointless and very forgettable.

Romero's The Crazies is a great film.

Maybe that's my problem, I never thought the original Crazies was that great really, I always thought it was one of his most lesser works. I thought the remake was way better than the original, which I don't think has dated well at all.
