I've been trying to get into Cinema Wasteland for years, but they're not willing to pay my travel expenses, even though they paid for the
cast of STREET TRASH to go there, so that one's definitely not going to happen.  Probably the same for Horrorfind (although my exec producer is from Maryland and may fly me out there for a special screening).  Most of these conventions are scams for guys like me- "Fly yourself out here, pay for your own hotel room, and get a table from us for $275 and we'll let you show your little movie - unless Ken Foree's talk goes  long."

Chicago is likely, probably at a festival though - if I have to travel, it may as well be where the film can compete.

I've done Chiller a bunch of times and screened UNDYING LOVE there.  Crowded show, but the guys who run it are real A-holes to deal with.

We need to show it in San Francisco. You should submit it to Another Hole in the Head.

I'd love to show it in San Fran.  It's all about the fest organizers realizing that this is something special and not treating it like some camcorder garbage.  I have my eye on 3 or 4 different fests in Canada, and they seem to care more about the movies than pocketing the submission fees.

No, probably not.  I want to hit Cinema Wasteland again, but probably the October show, Wasteland is the way to go, I love that convention.  I'll probably hit one of the Horrorfind days, most likely Saturday.

Why do you want it to compete? Horror Society's events in Chicago are a perfect place to screen/sell your movies. They only charge $50 for a vending table, $20 to show it and the theater is fucking BEAUTIFUL. I had a blast at B-Movie Madness 2. There was like 100 or so people who showed up and that's not including Troma or Kevin Tenney. I totally recommend it.

We need to show it in San Francisco. You should submit it to Another Hole in the Head.

Speaking of Another Hole in the Head, WTF is up with Jason Kartalian? He wont send me a copy of Driller to review. Mofo won't even answer my emails. It's disappointing since I actually was interested in the probable POS.

I'm not interested in being a vendor anywhere.  Once I pay for airfare, hotel and a cheap table, not to mention food and drink, it's virtually impossible for me to make any money.  I do Rue Morgue's Festival of Fear because my publisher pays my way and 50,000 people attend.  If someone wants to pay my way like they do all those NOTLD has beens, that's another story.  Why do I want to compete?  Well, it makes more sense for me to go to a festival, compete, and possibly win - so I walk away with SOMETHING - than it does for me to go broke at a con where I pay for a table for the PRIVILEGE of having them show my movie .  Why should I pay for a table and give them my movie for free?  That's jthe sucker's way,

I would avoid screening the movie at any conventions unless it is free. People go to conventions to get autographs and buy shit -- not watch movies. Something I never understood but its true.

It really depends o the con, really.  We did a 20th anniversary screening of SLIME CITY at a relatively slow FANGO show and we filled every seat in the screening room; same thing at Spooky Empire Screamfest in Florida.  If it's a movie people want to see, they come; if it's the latest Michael Berryman-Tom Savini teamup, they rarely give a hoot.

That is what is different about Cinema Wasteland...the people who run it, and the people who come out to it, actually care about the movies. They show alot of cool stuff all weekend long, not just your typical shit, and the screening rooms are usually packed with people.  The room we screened Isle of the Damned in was filled...so we were pretty stoked with that.  Of course we didn't have to fly out, we drove for about 6 or 7 hours though...we've just always wanted have one of our movies shown at Cinema Wasteland, because they know their shit, and we dig the convention.

Now Horrorfind, that is more like what you've described Wil.

James - other than WIL and a pair of guys who used to write for me for Fear Zone, we won't be sending out screeners until festival season at the soonest.  Feel free to remind me when the film has some dates lined up.
