Cannot wait to see this..
So WIL, based on what you've seen, is it better than the original??
LOL that was the question I asked the actors to throw them off.
There is more of a story to SCM. It is a prequel and a sequel in one. The cast in the flashbacks are perfect. Robert C. Sabin makes a great cult leader, his wife (Sephera Giron) is the perfect gross swinger type and then they have this beautiful spanish speaking daughter who participates in orgies with them. It really builds off the weirdness of the original, and Michael O'Hear makes an awesome Roman. I think, and hope, the flashbacks captures the essence of the original, and helps the transition for a sequel to a 80's film that was shot in 2009.
The future or post-apocalyptic part is when the fun starts, and it has enough stuff going on that it should make the film a lot of fun and different from the first. First of all the location of the burned out city is amazing. A lot of the times it upstaged the acting. It is sleazy, dirty and it really looks like the end of the world. The fun stuff also includes four different colors of slime (which made the movie for me: green, pink, orange and blue) , cannibals, mercenaries and dirty, homeless degenerates. The film does deliver on the fun blood and guts aspect!
As for technical stuff. The cinematography is amazing for a low budget film. That will probably be what sets it apart from most low budget films coming out today.
I think Lee Perkins and Debbie Rochon will help the acting be better than the original. I'm not so sure about the supporting cast.
There were a lot of practical effects with less digital effects, so it will still have that feel.
The movie may loose some old school fans because it was shot on HD. I do not understand the technical differences between "shot on film," "shot on video," "shot in HD," or "shot digitally" but I do know it will probably have that shiny look to it that some older fans still can't swallow.
My biggest worry is the shot on HD thing, but besides that the story is great, the acting is what you should expect, the blood and slime are there, the debauchery is there, the set is outstanding, the camera work is amazing, and I can tell you that this it is a lot more ambitious than most of the low budget films being created today. It has all the pieces to be decent, but I have to se the final product before I would ever put my stamp of approval on it. Remember I spent a month living with the director and working with the cast and crew. It is hard for me to be 100% biased, but from what I saw I am very excited to see the final product. I think your excitement is warranted in wanting to see Slime City Massacre.
Will it be better than the original? That may be like comparing apples and oranges, but I believe that it will be something to check out come 2010.
