Dude, they're fucking awesome. That is a lot better than a sample chapter.

Thanks, man.  The artists did all the work, including the lettering.  Kelly Forbes , who did the church scene, is a Canadian artist I got off the Rue Morgue message board; Martin Blanco, who did the embalming scene, works out of Argentinia and Spain.   I was real lucky to find both of them.

I must finish this book this upcoming week. I'm about 200 pages in and just haven't had the time to knock out the rest.

There are two comic book adaptations of two chapters of the book on my website, that's a lot more unique than posting sample pages.  The comics won Best Comic Book at the NYC Horror Film Festival last year.  I've been talking about this book here for two years, if people aren't interested I'm not going to cry about it.   The book msut be selling well, since Medallion is publishing PERSONAL DEMONS next year and just bought my next book, THE FRENZY WAY.

They haven't given you any statistics yet? I'd be dieing
Good luck with your books.

Oh, and if you didn't see my other post, I finally watched Slime City. I liked it quite a bit. You really did a great job with it.

That's how it always plays out. When I bought mine it wasn't even in the top 10. So to stay up there for more than a month when you got what, 2 versions, of Barker's new book, I say right on bro.

Yeah, thanks.  These things change quickly, though.   I think JOHNNY was #1, #4 and #8 on the Dark Delicacies list and CHEAP SCARES was #4, #1, #2, #4 or something like that.  In the small press, and on some of these lists, a single sale can get you ranked.  The real test for me will be when I get my royalty statements!  McFarland tells me CHEAP SCARES is selling well and they don't even start promoting it for another couple of weeks, which is great.  And Medallion wasted no time acquiring PERSONAL DEMONS, and then THE FRENZY WAY after JOHNNY was published, so I assume it did well even as a TPB.  Did you see the new cover Wil posted for PD?

Shameless self-promoting at it's best.

It does look pretty cool though.

CONGRATULATIONS to these GRUESOME Artist Friends of Mine:

So, first of all, congratulations to Matt Patterson, aka Matty Mask, for being nominated as "Best Sculptor" in Artvoice's annual "Buffalo's Best" poll.  People don't realize what an arts meca Buffalo is.  Matt is a great guy despite his cornpone sense of humor.  He sculpted The Johnny Gruesome Death Mask, PA'd on Return to Slime City, and is in charge of the prop blades and cleavers in SLIME CITY MASSACRE.  He's worked on films for other friends of mine as well--you might recall his ghoulish mask for Jay Mager's THE PIGMAN short--as well as at least one douchebag wose name I keep seeing whenever Matt sends out a mass e-mail because he doesn't know how to blind copy people!  On top of all this, the man is a hell of a father and has the patience of a truck driving, Tim Hortons addicted saint.  So a second congratulations to the big ham--you deserve it1

Second, Dan Plumely, who isn't really a friend because I've never met him, is a tattoo artist who lives in illinois.   He's the fellow who created Medallion Press' JOHNNY GRUESOME cover, and co-created their upcoming PERSONAL DEMONS cover.  Anyway, Dan's JOHNNY GRUESOME cover was just nominated for Benjamin Franklin Award for Best Cover Design: Fiction.  I'll be honest, I've never heard of the Benjamin Franklin Awards before, but according to the website of the Independant Book Publishers Association, which hands out the  awards, they're the biggest publishing awards in the country.  Since the awards banquet kicks off BookExpo America in NYC, I believe them.  Here's the funny thing: there are over 50 awards, covering many aspects of publishing.  There are only three nominees in each category.  JOHNNY GRUESOME has not been relegated to some horror ghetto category; it's been nominated as one of the best three covers of ANY FICTION published in 2008.  Holy shit, that's "HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE," (a reference only those living in Buffalo are likely to appreciate).  So congratulations to Dan Plumely and Medallion Press, I'm so happy you guys are kicking ass for my novel!
