Man, I wish every mail call could be like today's: first, no bills; second, that $10,500 check for SCM that I thought I lost Saturday arrived today; third, my FZ payment arrived; fourth, the 5 gas masks for the cannibals in SCM arrived; fifth, the press package for MEG: AQUARIUM HELL - TPB ARC, full color folder (just like a movie press package), color notes (a $75,000 marketing budget!)... now I have to read the damn thing.

But I was particularly pleased to see RUE MORGUE #89, sporting Sam Raimi's DRAG ME TO HELL on the cover and including a very positive review of CHEAP SCARES! in the Ninth Circle Books section. Some excerpts from John W. Bowen's review:

(After discussing different interpretations of what constitutes a "low budget" film):

"Still, there can be no disputing upstate New York filmmaker Gregory Lamberson's poverty-row credentials...

"He lays it all on the line in his new book CHEAP SCARES, which combines valuable step-by-step production lessons with his own anecdotes and interviews with an array og B-to-Z movie stalwarts.

"...but top honors go to Lamberson himself, who proves to be a most engaging writer.

"Lloyd Kaufman would undoubtedly be impressed, if maybe a tad distressed that his own indie film how-to tomes are finally getting a bit of competition. But there 's plenty of room in this particular niche market, and as both an advocate of independent film and a potential mentor for those daring enough to follow in his footsteps, Lamberson truly deserves to be heard."
