oh no you didn't. i've been hoping this wouldn't come up..
Jamie Lee Curtis is.. a stuck up bitch, a nerd (in the bad way), she has no sense of humor, and is in no means a Scream Queen. She starred in some horror movies before her career took off, big deal. those were borderline thrillers anyway.. it takes more than that to get a crown. she never had any love of the genre, it was work, plain and simple. hell even Nancy Allen would come closer to that title than JLC.

i've seen some street interviews with JLC and she's stuck up, prude and uptight. you'd think she was some christian old lady.. she's that bad.
but anyway, it takes more than simply starring in a horror film or two, to be a "Scream Queen", no matter how pivotal your role was/is. to me, you have to love the genre. your portifolio needs to have pictures of you dressed like Vampirella, holding a python, etc because you aren't a Scream Queen if you don't promote yourself as one. Cassandra Peterson is like 65 years old.. and she's still doing Elvira. you don't outgrow that title or move onto something else. just like Porn Queens.
denouncing the genre after having "made it" only to eventually point out, when you're a has-been and nobody gives a shit about you anymore that, yes, even you slummed it (like thousands of other actors) in some horror films in the early years of your career with a "tee-hee!"*snort* (she snorts when she laughs), doesn't cut it.. and is one of the very few things that kind of offends me. she went a step farther though and tried to milk the skeletons in her dead career's closet in newer Halloween films.. until Freaky Friday showed she can still work now that she's old and has zero sex appeal.

What about Angela Bettis from May? she has potential.. but she seems more of an actress then a Scream Queen to me.. and imo you can't be both. to me, horror isn't the genre you "slum" it on when not doing regular movies. a true Queen "slums" it on bikini/beach movies when not doing horror. like if Clive Barker wrote 5 succesful children's books.. he's still a horror writer. |

Uhhh, I think we derailed again. This was about JLC, then suddenly we are talking about lesbian encounters.
Well, anyway. According to Murder's definition, Michelle Sarah Gellar Stellar wouldn't be a Scream Queen either. No snakes, no nudity, and she acts in other films.

SMG is a slight exception though because she emerged during the bubble-gum horror period, so has to be judged on a large curve. she also got famous playing a superhero instead of a would-be-victim turned hero which put her in the Chritopher Lee, Vincent Price catagory. Scooby movies were just a paid vacation with her husband and she couldn't give two shits about. she does do the typical photo spreads too (or at least this age's equivilant) she practically had a wooden stake krazy-glued to her palm for the first three years of Buffy promo shots. SMG doesn't have a mongoloid skull like JLC either.  |

I don't care what anyone says, Jamie Lee Curtis is the ultimate Scream Queen. I mean, she's pretty much the reason that title's around now-a-days anyway. I don't think it has anything to do with being obsessed with the genre is just has to do with how many times you've been in a horror movie. I think about five times as a lead or supporting character pretty much mandates indution into the Scream Queen club. It's simply the truth and there's not much you can do about it.
Oh, JLC was in Roadgames sometime in the 80's as well.
