I'm conflicted. I'm not sure if I can label myself a screenwriter if I haven't sold a single script yet. However, I just finished my second script (a first draft to be more specifically). I had New Line studios review my first script, a zombie action film, that labeled it too generic in more words. My latest writing is a thriller. I hoping for better success but I have a feeling that if you want to get into the business, you might have to start with a low to no budget drama or comedy.
Anybody else a screenwriter and have any good tips? Connections? Willing to share?

I'm not a screenwriter, but I think if I were to make a movie, I'd make it a drama. I'd base it on my life and experiences. Something personal like that..you know.
I'm always considering writing a book (yeah, I know, I'm a weird mother fucker) but I always stop after a page or two, only because I don't feel like it's the right time.

I'm in the middle of my second screenplay too! I don't really know if I'm going to try to sell 'em though. I think I can direct my own stuff a thousand times better.

You'll see when I make a trailer for it.
There's another reason I don't feel like selling screenplays, I don't have to pitch anything to anyone until I'm all done.

I finished one script, working on a 2nd. Both will be short films, 30-40 minutes. I have an idea for a third.
Won't be doing anything with them until I finish my 4 year degree. I will just shoot them myself since they will qualify as "no budget" movies. I retain complete control in regards to editing and distrubition and while I have no high hopes of making money off of them, i can take the satisifaction of doing everything myself.
While selling a script isn't impossible, I have heard too many horror stories about the industry, backstabbing and especially the treatment of writers and their properties to EVER enter that world.
I will be happy with whatever my full time job is and I will have fun on the side shooting films. I have no problem with that at all.

I rather sell scripts and be happy. I want to see my work on the big or little screen. I know I write better than most of the shit out there - you just have to get it in the right hands or know the right people and, fuck, i'm on the wrong coast and don't have the money to grease the palms of those I need to.

If you can't grease the palms you can always slob the knobs.
Again, i'm on the wrong coast and those knobs are about ant-size.
