Hate to burst both of your bubbles then ... I had no guys training me or leading the way into the horror genre. I have found many great genre films on my own as well as by some of you wonderful fellas of course but I've been led to some good ones by fellow female horror lovers too. So I do, in fact prove your theory wrong. As I said, I like some very kick ass movies that I viewed on my own without any male guidance whatsoever. I have pretty good taste in movies, genre and non-genre. Hell, I remember the first time I discovered Full Metal Jacket... I was alone in my room watching HBO or showtime. I'd never heard of it but when I saw it, I knew that it was fucking ACE!
