You misunderstand. I don't work for Shout!, I'm just a fan, who wants to get the word out about these flicks. Which is one of the reasons why I started my DVD NEWS WATCH blog. Link provided in the signature. AV Maniacs is where it's happening. We have a Shout! Factory producer, two actually, the other one is working on the GAMERA releases, and when they're allowed to, they drop in and grace us all with information, release dates, etc. I just discovered this site a day ago. Looks cool. I was surprised to see this was where Quentin Tarantino was hanging out for a while. What happened? I noticed he hasn't posted in years.

I love the 3D Piranha cover! These are all great collections. If you order the Slumber Party collection directly from Shout you get this pillow case!

The Alien Anthology is listed on the main page, but not Exorcist. Please feel free to start new topics for both.

I added what you can expect for special features with the Forbidden World, Galaxy Of Terror, Piranha, Humanoids From The Deep, and Deathsport/Battle Truck Double Feature.

As far as I know ALL the Corman releases come with reversable cover artwork, depending on which poster you like best, the domestic or the international versions, and ALL will come with booklets.

I am very excited about this, especially for the Attack of the Crab Monsters/Not of This Earth/War Of The Satelittes Triple Feature!  I love all those really old Sci-fi monster movies and those are some cool ones fo' sho'!

I wonder how a movie like Galaxy of Terror would look on Blu-ray?  I have a decent copy of this from VHS to DVD, but I kinda feel like Blu-ray might reveal too much that doesn't need to be noticed.

I just picked up the Galaxy Of Motherfucking Terror dvd today. Everything about that release rules! The reversible cover art, the booklet, all of the bonus features, etc. This is a wet dream dvd for me.

But at the same time, I understand not wanting my horror movies to look too clean. For example, my Evil Dead dvd bugs the shit out me when I watch it because I grew up with my Thorn/EMI vhs that was all pitch black and gritty looking. Same thing with Burial Ground, Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, and a few others.

I just finished watching FORBIDDEN WORLD and it most definitely holds up. First off, I like the color pallete that was used, it reminded me of FROM BEYOND. Both flicks made excellent use of just about every color in the spectrum. And, on DVD those reds, purples, violets and so forth really pop. Secondly, I like the way this flick was edited, especially with the flash forward in the beginning when Colby is coming out of crio-sleep, like he's having some kind of clairvoyant dream of the horrors to come, and when Scott Paulson, goes scouring the corriders after having watched Colby and Barbara screw their brains out, and he can't get their sex out of his head, even as he's being attacked, and at the end when Colby and Tracy, the lone survivors, are standing in the lab, staring at all the damage Subject 20 has wrought, and either Colby or Tracy, or both of them, are flashing back to all the tragic shit they had to endure.

I also like how gritty and sweaty and dirty the whole flick looked. Cal, the crazy scientist with cancer, who reminds me of Harry Dean Stanton, appeared to be the worse, with his ever present cough, sweaty face, and blood stained clothing.

The sex scene between Barbara and Colby was nicely photographed for that ultimate soft-core feel. And, those aformentioned colors were there, too, making it look like some kind of erotic dream. And, I forgot how much of Tracy's body was on display. That sauna scene featured just about every inch of her nicely toned frame, which certainly caps it for me, in that Dawn Dunlap is the HOTTEST chick in FORBIDDEN WORLD.

Jesse Vint looks a little bit like Lance Henriksen, or, in the least, Henriksen's brother.

The gore was appropriately gory, too, and the two scenes that actually made me twinge, just a little bit with discomfort, were Jimmy's death scene with that thing on his face. Jesus, that was kinda hard to watch, maybe, because I can imagine what that might feel like, having this parasitical beast eating it's way into your skull - Ugh! - and Cal's cancer extraction and the unbearable pain that made him scream, because it was being done WITHOUT anesthesia. Double Ugh!

Even though it's only 77 minutes long, it's perfectly paced and because of that feels much longer. This is one of those rare movies where I liked all the characters, even Hauser, who wanted to keep the stuff about Annie a secret.

What an insidious creature that was, wanting to turn all the survivors into it's food supply by infecting everyone with its saliva, and those hideous mounds of goopy flesh pies they turned into. More glorious Ughs!!!

The music is excellent, in it's 80s synthesizer ways.

The last scene is cool, where the camera pans around, and you see Cal dead on the table, Sam-104's upper body lying on another table, and the final creature oozing cancer on the floor. It gave me that I-can't-believe-all-this-just-happened vibe.

The only, and I mean, ONLY, thing I didn't like was the absurd decision to use a kid-like voice for Sam-104. It makes Colby's character seem kind of perverted. Actually, his character does kind come off as "slightely odd."

All in all, FORBIDDEN WORLD still kicks ass after all these years. I say, the original title, MUTANT, is more appropriate, though. Now, Monday, I'm gonna watch the director's cut to see how it compares.

The Director's Cut looks a bit rough.  The theatrical looks a lot better. There are about 5 unimportant minutes to the director's cut, so all in all, the theatrical is better.  Most people feel that Galaxy of Terror is the superior movie, and as far as sets and props go, yeah it is, but the entertainment factor, sleaze, and gore in Forbidden World makes it better than Galaxy of Terror in my opinion.
