After Bleed and Cold Blooded, two movies full of crazy time consuming effects, they may not be great to look at, but that shit takes time, and for my third movie, I really wanted to do something SMALL.
The idea of Abortions have always fascinated me. For me, it's one of the great true moral topics of our time. When I was a kid there was this anti-abortion commercial that came on TV, this was back when anti-abortionists were really going crazy, and they paid to have this thing put on.
The commercial actually showed what was left of the babies after the abortions were done. They showed little bloody hands a feet, torn baby faces put back together on operating tables, all real footage. The networks made them take it off the air. It only ran twice.
That commercial stayed with me.
I wrote a while back and there was a chapter where a girl gets an abortion. I did about a week of research on it, I read testimonials from girls who had them, I read what the doctors who perform them and how they're performed (grisly shit) and I read about the people who were for them. It was only one chapter in the book and half the shit didn't even get used, but I had all this info...it lead to me taking that chapter and writing a short story and that short story is what turned into the movie.
I don't know if abortion is right or wrong, I think it's wrong to kill a baby no matter what, but if I had a younger sister, and she decided to get an abortion, I would never condemn her for it. What the fuck do I know what it's like to go through something like that? So I tried to present both sides of the argument...and let the peices fall whereever they wanted.
I didn't want to get too deep with the flick though, it's already grisly shit as it is...so I really kind of set about making it LIGHT HEARTED and I think if you ask anyone who sees it, they'll agree.
It's mainly because of the two heros...
One of their sisters is killed and he sets out to unravel what happens. In a way this is my detective story, they follow clues, interrogate people, only unlike most movies, these guys aren't that slick...they have no idea what they're doing and in the end...well...not to give it away, but I wanted it to be different than most movies.
The Aborted is also the goriest shit I've made....
people tell me that Bleed is my odd movie...the one that's not like the other ones...but I think this one is the oddest movie I've made.
It's a small story, not big in scope, deals with mostly character and it's a fun little movie, lots of laughs are had, but beneath the surface, there's more going on.
The Aborted is scheduled to be released in August from Brain Damage...
