I finally got to watch this and for the most part, I LOVED it. The entire time I was reminded of being a younun with my brother and we would be watching VHS tapes of movies like Escape From NY, The Road Warrior, 1990 the Bronx Warriors, Deathrace 2000, Exterminators of the Year 3000 and countless others of various quality....

So much of this movie worked in familiar territory and worked really well and all the while very little of it was predictable which is a fete in and of itself.

The only part that I felt was weak was the last act in which they find themselves in the "medieval" group. It was short and rather pointless and with the exception of the gladiator fight, I found it rather tedious which sucks because I was in love with the trash cinema pastiche Marshall had concocted. Though after that it  picks up again, albeit rather shortly.

I loved the brutality of it as well...Marshall is a hero of mine for bringing something like this to screens...This would have fit right in with the Grindhouse concept of Tarrantino and Rodriguez had they been able to continue it.

Yeah, this and Dog Soldiers fucking rule.

The Descent wasn't too terrible... I dunno.  I didn't care for it, but I've only seen it once.  I should try watching it again or something.

Yeah, watch it again. Seriously, the Descent is kick ass. Probably my favorite modern mainstream horror flick.

Yep, I LOVED the The Descent, one of my favorite horror films. Doomsday was only in theatres for about 5 minutes or so and I know it just recently came out on DVD. I need to watch it.

I was so fortunate to meet Neil Marshall at Fear Fest 2 in Dallas back in March, he was making his first ever convention appearance AND he was signing for free. Now I just need to get a frame for the damn poster.

Just got finished watching it and all I can say is WOW!

When the trailers first came out, I wasn't excited at all. It did come across as a mishmash type film, another "infected/isolated" type movie. Even though The Descent was great, it looked like Neil had taken a step back. You can also see why the film didn't really cross over because it did mix 20 different genres together.

I was looking at the numbers and this film only grossed about 15-20 million, BUT this movie was shot with just a 30 million dollar budget. That, in and of itself, is remarkble. This has cult status written all over it in due time.

I think Marshall made a great choice in getting away from the claustrophobic feel with his first two movies and opened things up here.  Tyler Bates, who did the score, had several references to old Carpenter scores including Escape from New York. Not a perfect film, you can find flaws in anything you look hard enough. But considering the damn near perfection that was The Descent, Doomsday was one heck of a follow up.

I guess Neil is already filming his next movie which is based on James Sallis novel "Drive". Appears to be another left turn and something else that he hasn't directed before. I think this would be the first movie he hasn't written. Hugh Jackman is in the lead role for this film, so you would think it should be pretty darn good.

I noticed on the back of the DVD box, it didn't mention anything about a commentary. Sure enough there is a commentary track on the DVD by Neil and members of the cast, I can't wait to listen to that later tonight.
