This is where we will disagree Coffin...
You can easily remake Friday and Halloween because these are guys in masks who don't speak. The actors behind the masks just need to resemble moveable mannerisms...
Freddy, on the other hand, has his looks, sounds, and as well as moveable mannerisms as well. You need to find a person who can exactly emulate that Robert Englund laugh. You can't change some an iconic character. There have been many actors to portray Jason and Michael but there has only been one who has portrayed Freddy throughout the entire, and official, series.

I really don't think this one will succeed. With Halloween and F13, I had some hope because its not really that hard to be a guy in a mask and lumber around. But with NOES, I can't see any actor today that can fill such big shoes that Englund filled.

You know what would be cool? If they tried to make Freddy the way Wes Craven had originally intented. Freddy was supposed to be way more gruesome with bone showing through his burned, decaying flesh and stuff like that.
If they did that and made Freddy semi-silent I think they might be able to pull it off. In fact all they have to do is get the new Freddy to say "This...is God!" and I'll be set.

I don't want him to look like Jason (doesn't matter what version). I want him to look like a decaying, burned, corpse (I'm thinking Tar Man from Return of the Living Dead, minus the tar). And no I don't want him to talk like Pinhead (because he never shuts up). In my mind there are only 3 things the new Freddy absolutely has to vocalize (but I'd be satisfied with just #2)...stay with me.
1. "Tina."
2. "This...is God"
3. ...laugh
As far as Freddy past part 1, I don't even think they should try. I mean, I love the wise-cracking Freddy, but if they're trying to reesablish him as an icon then they need to make him semi-silent...at least for the first 3 they're planning to put out. After that it probably won't even matter anymore.

Change is most unwelcome, believe you me. If I could I'd shove my middle finger ridiculously far down the throats of those in charge I would, but I can't. Plus, no matter how much I bitch it won't change the fact that they're going to do it anyway. Freddy is my favorite, obviously, and I'm trying to see the possible good (yeah right) in it so it doesn't ruin the whole series for me.
The Friday the 13th and Halloween remakes weren't as big a deal as this one is to me. I don't give a fuck about Jason and Michael never really did it for me either.
