There has been a script or an idea floating around for ages called Elm Street: The First Murders. Robert Englund was really into it and it would show all the shit he did to kids before getting lynched and killed, which led to part 1.
That never got made for whatever reasons, Robert hasn't gotten any younger and Elm Street now joins everyone else is the remake graveyard.
As a kid, I loved anything/everything Elm Street. I would say I'm more of an Elm Street brat than a Friday the 13th kid. As an adult, I know part 5 has more than it's fair share of problems, part 6 is just awful for the most part and Wes Craven's fairwell to the series felt hollow in so many ways.
I will likely go see this opening weekend, it's a crime that Robert won't be back, but what can you do. I just hope that if Heather Langenkamp or John Saxon or anyone else from the original cast gets offered a cameo, they tell the producers to fuck off.

I'm kinda psyched that they brought in a music video director just cause he is pretty fresh and might have some new ideas. Kinda good that they didn't go with the crappy experience route like with the other remakes.

It was stated on another message board that the reason why Nirvana chose him, Samuel Bayer, to direct the Teen Spirit video is because it was the worst demo reel they got.
lmao
I'm REALLY psyched after hearing that piece of news.

I just hope that if Heather Langenkamp or John Saxon or anyone else from the original cast gets offered a cameo, they tell the producers to fuck off. Damn Straight! With that being said, in all honesty I'm torn. I've been a Freddy Follower since I can remember. Some of my fondest memories as a kid were going to the video store so I could convince my mom to let me rent Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (I dug the video game death). I really want to see the remake because of my undying love for Freddy and everything he is a part of. However, I'm not sure I can fall in love with another Freddy. And when they do the remake is he going to come out the same bastard son of a 100 maniacs I've come to know and love. The child molester I grew up with is going to change I know it and I just can't stand it. I was hoping on the aforementioned prequel for some time, but I fear my days of dreaming have finally come to an end. HORROR - - - R.I.P. (A little melodramatic, but it came straight from the heart) NightmareManiac

Um, what? Lindsay Lohan has been cast as the lead female role in the remake of A Nightmare On Elm Street, the film’s producer Andrew Form has confirmed.
Lead role? Nancy!?!?
“We were lucky to receive a call from Jason Weinberg, Lindsay’s manager. He called us to tell us that Lindsay was very interested in the film and wanted to be a part of it. We called Jason back after Wesley Strick finished the script and asked if Lindsay wanted to look at the first draft. She looked it over and loved it. She thought this was the perfect vehicle for her.”
Perfect as in “I Know Who Killed Me“? We all know about Lindsay’s award for that movie!
Andrew and Bradley Fuller, who produced the remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th, will be with producing the Nightmare remake. Also on board is Michael Bay, who directed both Transformers films.
“Michael, Bradley and I couldn’t imagine having a better actress for the part and without an audition we cast her,” Andrew adds.

Update on that Lin Lo rumor.. UPDATE: As I suspected, it's all bullshit. The "Just Jared" guy has claimed he was being "punk'd" by someone trying to ruin his reputation... Maybe ceasing to use the word "punk'd" will go a long way towards making sure that doesn't happen.

This one is going to be waaaaaaay harder to do than Friday. The characters actually mattered in the original Nightmare. One benefeit to remaking the Nightmare movies that remaking movies like TCM or Friday the 13th didn't have is the things we can do with special effects now days. Unfortunently, I have a feeling they're going to make it too gritty, and all the color and cool deaths from the first few Nightmares aren't going to make it. BUT... I was all when I first heard about Friday, so who fucking knows anymore.
