This is interesting, and has prompted me to do some digging myself.
Someone, somewhere obviously knows something about it.
A google search for "Death Walks the Streets" returns 21,800 results.
Their myspace has nearly 16,000 members.

Now, the fanart thing (i agree weird) appears to be real.
The two girls featured on their news page right now also have comments posted on the myspace page too.

Now the main thing is that while they're supposedly an "independent" production, someone has to be throwing an assload of cash into it.
One of the producers was co-producer of all three Saw movies, and did alexander Aja's new movie "P2". So think about that for a second. How much cash did the Saw movies rake in?
Cautiously, I say if they are independent, I see nothing wrong with what they're doing. The studios do this shit all the time. If someone else can pull it off, more power to them.
But, if they make a shitty movie, fuck em.
