Did I just read correctly? HYB sides with Eli Roth in what could be the horror director throwdown of the year? You've got to be kidding! Eli could live to be 100 and he'll never make a movie as good as TRAINSPOTTING. That Boyle cat knows about real moviemakig. I don't know if it's cool to see one pro attacking another like rappers, but I'm siding with the guy with the talent. Anyone see Eli on ON THE LOT last week?

I can see how heroin addicts might not like TRAINSPOTTING, what with its unglamorous depiction of drug addicts and all, but I thought it was brilliant. Crack is whack!

I have NEVER done heroin! But I've known addicts and I've known MANY young kids that wanted to do heroin AFTER SEEING THAT MOVIE! Half of the damn ninth grade in my high school ran right out and tried to find some after that movie came out...........

Greg, you are anti-drugs, right? I kept seeing references to drugs, alcoholism, poverty, and prostitution in your films.

there's no "e" in heroin. despite Bayer's intention. there is heroin in E however  .. anyway.. Transpotting is like Requim for a Dream in that only people who've never experienced doing drugs nor witnessed real junky hijinx can enjoy. surreal romanticized propaganda at best.. it does have a couple funny parts though... like when the guy does speed for a job interview; i'm usually pretty quiet sober, so getting high to make a good impression for an interview still seams like a good idea to me.. no matter how many times it's proven otherwise  |

Molly, now that I'm a parent I'm anti-EVERYTHING. I actually have a "do whatever makes you feel good as long as it doesn't hurt others" philosophy. Now that my life is half over, (at least!) I personally believe in preserving as many brain cells as I can, so I rarely even drink, but the 90s are a hazy blur to me. I do feature a lot of drug use in my stories because 1) I think characters with foibles are more interesting than those without them; and 2) I think horror is most interesting when it's a metaphor for sex or addiction. |

Murder, REQUIEM FOR A DREAM is one of my favorite movies ever. I will check out TRAINSPOTTING just for the comparison. And you pointing out that spelling error had me laughing my ass off.
Greg, I noticed that in your movies. I think there was one line in SLIME CITY that referenced homeless people or deviants and it was so insulting that it was unintentionally funny. I can't for the life of me remember what it was though.
