Ok, if you're old like I am, you remember and adore the old late 80s shows Monsters, Tales from the Darkside, Friday the 13th: The Series and Freddy's Nightmares. With the exception of Freddy's Nightmares, these were great serieses.. (if that's a word).. in this day and age when almost everything that was ever on TV is in a DVD collection, i have to ask "What the fuck?".

Friday the 13th: The Series is the only one of them with a collection out.. and even that looks pretty backroom/shadey.

I'm sure if you search you can find some dusty VHS copies of these, but that's not good enough. this is 2006 for crying out load.. fuck VCRs! a $79 Monsters DVD box set would make whatever 3rd-rate company that owns the rights more money than it is now staying a passing memory. but no. they'll continue to Boo-Berry the shit out of spite, leaving the fans out in the cold.

Tales from the Darkside, however, Scf-Fi Channel currently runs at midnight sometimes, which is about as good as it seems it's going to get for a long time.

ok, i looked up that "3rd-rate company that owns the rights" to Monsters because i assume since Debra Hill's dead that's the only way "the suits" could've remained ignorant to this potentially re-profitable series.

anyway, i came across this petition www.petitiononline.com/19784444/petition.html to get the series released on DVD..

sure, signing it won't do shit but.. fuck it, making a little "91" on your screen change to a "92" is empowering.

Hey quit trying to say your old, it's making it difficult for those of us who are!

There was a certain humorous quality obout those 80's shows, that the new ones dont have. I dont remember Monsters.

Monsters is kinda like the sister to Tales from the Darkside, they were both done by Laurel.

Monsters had this cool claymation opening sequence with a family of monsters sitting around making preparations to watch some horror movie on TV.

I loved growing up watching these shows and would love to see some good dvd releases too. I'm not close to the age you guys are (I'm 24) but I know I have only love for the 80's stuff and that's all there is to it! Anyone remember "The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein" with Vincent Price? I got that boxset but haven't popped it in to watch yet.

Werewolf: the Series. Another forgotten classic that still hasn't made it to a DVD collection..

Frank Lupo (A-Team producer) put this show out for Fox in like 1987 and it ran for i think only one season. The main charactor Eric, was.. a werewolf hunting down the old one-eyed sea captain of a werewolf that bit him (played by Chuck Conners). to kill him would end the cycle and cure Eric of being a werewolf.

Eric would drift from town to town on this journey, usually getting into some kind of trouble helping someone.. turn into a werewolf, kill the bad guy, then have to flee before people started asking questions. very, very Incredible Hulk-esque, but the formula worked quite well and Rick Baker's effects pulled this off even more so.

it also had Brian Thompson (aka "what's-his-name, that big guy with the jaw.. y'know, that guy from that movie" from Fright Night 2, Buffy and X-files) in later episodes as the werewolf master, lord or whatever.. the one at the top of the bloodline.

i remember USA reran it for awhile but i think the censored it some, or played them completely out of order, because it didn't "feel right" or something. it could've just been a case of it was better when i was 13 than however old i was when i tried to watch it again, but i think they fucked it up somehow.

Commander USA used to host horror movies saturday afternoons when i was a little kid.. (Commander USA's Groovy Movies). mostly old spanish and italian/Paul Naschy stuff, .. but occasionally something like Squirm. i  he'd draw a face on his hand with his cigar, "Lefty" who was his sidekick.. and various silly mini skits. i used to love this show.

he's on a commercial that still airs for.. the Wiz? or Home Depot? i forget.. it's something in a warehouse though..

Cryptflix has put out Monsters and Werewolf: the Series DVD collections. for now it seems like you're only likely to find them at a horror convention though.. so who knows how ghetto they are.. but they exist, which is very nice.

Morgus Presents

anyone else remember this late 80s "show"? they played old PG horror and Godzilla movies hosted by Morgus, a mad scientist and his mute assistant Chopsley. usually things from your childhood are remembered to be cooler than they were.. now maybe i was just too young to understand "cheese", but as a little kid i thought this shit sucked, so i can only imagine how awful it really was.

I think I do vaguely remember that.

I will always miss Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs and USA's Up All Night with Rhonda Shear
