Well, I saw the first three at the movies.  I might as well give this a shot.

Kirstin Bell was amazing in Pootie Tang.

Twas not bad. Had a lot of elements from the first and makes fun of all the atypical shitty reboots/remakes that have been coming out lately. Even gives you a new "list" of the rules.

It was just like the other 3, I liked it until the mask comes off.  Then it's not as good.

I liked it alot but I have a shitton I hated about it:

They overdid the self parody crap - It was great in the first one, subtle and brief in the second, almost non-existant in the third, and they whored it to death in this one. Rory Culkin and the other douche were awful replacements for Randy and I hated both of them (Though a Stab-a-thon would kick ass).

Tried too much to be funny - Anthony Anderson's death epitomizes this ten fold. The opening was funny enough to encompass the whole movie, but all the puns and predictable jokes ruined it for me.

Drug out too much - Seriously it's a little too fucking long.

Gail/Dewey marriage in turmoil Bullcrap - Seriously? KW wrote it to where they both take their jobs too seriously? So serious that they don't trust eachother, go different ways in investigating the situation, and have to rectify their differences after Gail gets attacked? Lame. Not believe-able at all. It also doesn't help that they both give their worst performances of the franchise.

It's another one of those IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE IT COMING endings - Did you hate #3's lame ending? Well then this one will also rub you the wrong way. Not to mention that in this reboot for a new trilogy, SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, they just slightly alter the ending of the first movie for their ending.

Anthony Anderson's Death - Seriously this ruined the whole fucking pacing of the movie. The first second of it was cool but the next 20 secs of it were retarded.

Overall it's a 7 - 7.5 out of 10 tops.

From http://www.eonline.com/Mechablog/ask_the_answer_bitch/b237248_does_scream_4_signal_death_of_sequel.html

With the less than awesome box office of Scream 4, should we believe that reboots are now more successful ventures than sequels?
—Dan C., via Facebook

In a word, yes. The opening weekend for Scream 4 scared up a so-so $18 million. But does that mean that people would rather see the birth of a baby Ghostface than the ongoing adventures of a geriatric Ghostface. Well:

Yes.

"If Scream 4 proved anything other than that irony is on its deathbed, it's that horror reboots have a better chance of survival in the current cinematic marketplace than continuing sagas," says box office analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations. "If there is a Scream 5, expect it to be re-titled Scream, and don't expect David Arquette, Courteney Cox or Neve Campbell to return unless it's in a cameo—in the form of a body bag."

Need more proof? Numbers don't lie. Lately we've had reboots of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th—and all of them just killed Scream 4 in terms of earnings. Massacre took in $28 million in its opening weekend and has earned $80 million domestically thus far; Nightmare enjoyed a $32 million opening weekend and boasts $63 million domestic dollars under Freddy's belt; and the new Friday the 13th earned $40 million in its first Friday and Saturday and Sunday. (It's earned about $65 mil so far.)

In contrast, Bock expects the new Scream installment to earn, "tops," $40 million.

If you love reboots, I have more good news: Universal's The Thing and Disney's Fright Night are both being rebooted as well.

http://www.moviehole.net/201140076-goodbye-sidney-is-scream-5-off

Update! : Someone that should know whether or not the “Scream” series will continue dropped us an email overnight. The email reads “Guys, you may be correct – but at this stage we haven’t decided anything about “Scream 5″ (if you want to update your article to reflect that). Appreciate the kind words on the film.” So there you have it, still a chance we may get the next two instalments in the Kevin Williamson penned trilogy.

When “Scream 4″ was announced —- so was “Scream 5″ and “Scream 6″. You see, Kevin Willamson had mapped out a new trilogy – with the recently-released “Scream 4″ the first chapter of it – though one that would be closely connected to the original three films. Obviously things changed a bit when Williamson left the movie half-way through (and was replaced by Ehren Kruger), after getting into a bit of a tiff with the producers, but up until the release of “Scream 4″ a few weeks ago, chapters 5 and 6 were still very much on the cards.

Unfortunately, “Scream 4″ didn’t make as much as the producers had hoped it would – though $18 million isn’t too shabby. By beancounter accounts though, it’s a failure (though not creatively speaking, I enjoyed it!) and it’s left a lot of people asking, ‘Why’?

E! Online‘s Answer Bitch (read the full article above) believes the film failed not so much because of the content but because it was a sequel – - to a 15-year-old film. Sequels, the columnist says, aren’t as appealing to audiences these days; remakes, however, are.

“If Scream 4 proved anything other than that irony is on its deathbed, it’s that horror reboots have a better chance of survival in the current cinematic marketplace than continuing sagas,” says box office analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations. “If there is a Scream 5, expect it to be re-titled Scream, and don’t expect David Arquette, Courteney Cox or Neve Campbell to return unless it’s in a cameo—in the form of a body bag.”
But on that note, will there be a “Scream 5″?

Over the past week or so we’ve spoken to a few in-the-know folks who had all heard the same thing : “The Scream franchise will likely end here, at least for the moment.”

Personally, I think that’s sad – I loved that the original cast were back for this “Scream”, just as I appreciated Jeff Bridges coming back for “Tron Legacy”; and though these ‘reboots’ are insanely popular – can anyone honestly say the new “Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Prom Night”, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, “Arthur” or “Friday the 13th” films were even half-as-good as “Scream 4″!? I think it’s the better film. Reboots are genuinely… let’s admit it… inferior. But still, there is ‘hope’ for the good-old sequel, what with “Fast Five” doing huge business at the box office – - and it’s ‘part 5′ in a series! – and you just know that this new “Transformers” sequel is going to blow the competition away when it releases in a couple of months too. I think maybe the lesson learnt here with “Scream 4″ (and maybe “Tron Legacy”) is not to wait so long to do another sequel – the audience will still be there three or four years later, but fifteen? Most of your original audience will have moved on and the new target audience, those say, 17 or 18? They mightn’t even be familiar with the “Scream” series – having only been 3 or 4 years-old when the first one came out.

There are quite a few sequels to old classics still in the works – “Beverly Hills Cop 4″, “Die Hard 5″, “Terminator 5″ – but so, so, so many more ‘reboots’ on the way like…. “Fright Night”, “Robocop”, “The Birds”, “Child’s Play”, “Hellraiser”, “Children of the Corn”, “The Crow”, “The Amazing Spider-Man”, “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”, “Battle Royale”, “Cliffhanger”, “Conan”, “Daredevil”, “Death Wish”, “Drop Dead Fred”, “Fantastic Four”, “Escape from New York”, “Flight of the Navigator”, “Footloose”, “F/X”, “Highlander”, “The Monster Squad”, “The Never-Ending Story”, “Pet Sematary”, “Overboard”, “Superman”, “Red Dawn”, “The Shadow”, “Romancing the Stone”, “Evil Dead”, “Short Circuit”, “Teen Wolf”, “Westworld”, “Tomb Raider”…… and I could go on, but I won’t… I’ve a bike to fix!

What do you guys think? Is the sequel doomed?

Probably.  It wasn't like a Scream 4 was necessary to begin with.

Finally got around to seeing Scream 4. I liked it quite a bit, it did have some flaws, but overall it was a great addition to the franchise. I liked it way better than the other two sequels.

I wouldn't necessarily say the killer was unpredictable JBirdman, at least not in the same vein as Scream 3. I wouldn't have bet money on it or anything, but it entered my mind around the Stab-a-thon/Patrol car kill scenes. I do agree that the Dewey/Gale drama was unnecessary and ill performed.

Sucks that it under performed at the box office and that list of remakes is scary. I can't believe they're thinking about remaking fucking Neverending Story. And how the hell do they think a remake of Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a good idea? The only way I would watch that shit is if it starred actual whores and Neil Patrick Harris playing himself from Harold and Kumar.

Yeah, I'm the one that gave it a 5 (Awesome), what?

I had a blast with the original trilogy and I'm going to have a blast with the next three installments.  Was it perfect, no.  Was it better than most of the shit coming out now-a-days, yes.  I went with 5 really good friends and I don't think I've ever had that much fun at the movies in my life.  It was a little predictable at times, I saw the "I'm in the closet" part coming as soon as the phone conversation started.  The fact that they made Kristen Bell such a big deal and she was only in the first 5 minutes of the film kind of pissed me off.  Oh, and for all the Anthony Anderson haters...I get it.  It was a little too over-the-top, but the, "Fuck Bruce Willis!" punchline was so worth the ridiculosity of the death itself.  However, those are small gripes because the new set of rules was awesome, this installment was gorier than all the others, and, fuck what everyone else thinks, I liked the ending.  I did drag out a little longer than it had to, but they even made fun of the fact that they were doing it so it really worked for me.  I know that ironic horror is on its death bed, but the irony of the Scream franchise it what makes it so smart and fun.  So, yes, I have been won over by Scream 4 and I look forward to parts 5 and 6.
