*spoilers*
Not a review, just a topic where I express my profound love for this flick.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Amityville II: The Possession is one of those rare horror sequels that is much better than the original. I think The Amityville Horror is ok at best. Amityville II on the other hand is a perverse little gem of sick and sadistic 80's horror. You can feel the nasty influence of the 80's slasher craze in this one. The POV shots of the demonic forces are right out of Halloween and F13. There's also an incredible sequence where the camera chases the lead character throughout the house. It's seemless camera work and quite impressive.
Another 80's craze was the use of mind blowing makeup effects. The demonic transformations and in particular the face crumbling climax of Amityville II are top notch special effects. Much more effective than the lame glowing eyes that the original attempted to shock the audience with.
Then there's the INCEST. Few horror flicks are as sick and depraved as Amityville II. A brother makes love to his sister, and he does it to hurt God's feelings. Words can not express how much I love that concept. The legendary Dardano Sacchetti wrote the original screenplay (uncredited) and his Italian flair for throwing good taste out the window is evident.
Not to mention Burt Young (Paulie from Rocky!) as the abusive pig Father. "Smoke, Priest?" He's such a fucking bastard in this flick. You can't wait to see him snuffed. Special attention must also be given to the very sexy Diane Franklin, who also played a promiscuous young slut in The Last American Virgin and played the foreign exchange love interest in Better Off Dead. Diane is a real heartbreaker and when she dies in this flick, the heart of the film dies too.
Amityville II: The Possession is highly recommended for 80's horror fans. You can watch the whole damn flick for free here:
