Twisted Pictures is becoming the house of multiple sharp objects. The makers of the "Saw" series are closing a deal to take over the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" franchise, putting the villains Leatherface and Jigsaw under one roof.
Sources said the producer/financier is in talks to partner in the films with Lionsgate, which has distributed all the pics in the highly profitable "Saw" series, including the Oct. 23 release of "Saw VI."
The plan is to contemporize the storyline for a 3D film that would be scripted by Stephen Susco ("The Grudge"). Carl Mazzocone, Mark Burg and Oren Koules will be the producers.
The series had been launched at New Line with a remake and a prequel produced by Platinum Dunes, the genre company run by Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.
Deals had been made on a per-pic basis with "Chainsaw" rights-holders Bob Kuhn and Kim Henkel, the latter of whom wrote the original 1974 pic with director Tobe Hooper. Talks fell apart with Platinum Dunes. The Twisted Pictures deal is for multiple films, sources said.

I'm not a fan of the idea at all. After all these years of bitching about remakes I realized I'm not 100% against them. I don't mind the ones that use the name of an existing film to get made but are totally different films. Like Black Christmas or even Rob Zombie's Halloween, but what I am against are these hacks who keep remaking the films with no vision.
New variations of the classics can be great. It happens all the time in comics, and it is how we got the cooler darker Batman instead of the original campy pussy one. However, these Platinum Dunes flicks and PG-13 remakes are just shiny, watered down versions of the originals.
If these guys had something better than "we're going to remake Texas Chainsaw in 3D!" I might have been interested. Or if they had a list of credits that were impressive -- Lets be honest milking a franchise like Saw is not very impressive -- then maybe we would have something to talk about, but being a lesser Platinum Dunes is nothing to brag about.
We'll see what happens, but until they show me something great I say poopy cock!

Wait ... will this be the 3rd installment of the two most recent TCM movies (remake and prequel) or is this another remake of the OG in 3D? I am slightly confused.
Next, if this is a continuation from the remake and prequel like I hope it is ... Andrew Bryniarski better be back as Leatherface. Wait ... Jessica Biel chopped off his damn hand in the remake. Shit balls.

Sounds like it will be another reboot not a sequel.

so this would be like the 3rd attempt at rebooting the TCM franchise?
i guess that explains the 3D part in the title

I care because TCM is my favorite movie/series of all time, but at the same time I don't care because it's only a matter of time before EVERY horror movie ever made gets a shitty remake...or sequel...or prequel...or reboot...or whatever.
I actually liked the remake & the prequel! The only TCM flick I think sucks is Next Generation.

God I hated that remake. The prequel was alright but nothing that I cared for.

They were both bearable, but neither were good.
This is really lame.. if there had been more time inbetween it'd be more understandable, but all these remakes have been within the same 10 years.. what the fuck!!

The prequel is probably the goriest flick in the series! It rivals part 2 in the chainsaw dismemberment department. But it was a lame "backstory." I ranted about this once on HMF. It was supposed to be "THE SECRETS OF LEATHERFACE REVEALED!!!" but it immediately went from birth to Leatherface being a full grown retard working in a slaughtehouse!
The perfect TCM flick would be the story of GRANDPA in his prime. He was faster than Jesse James! He was the king! I want to see Grandpa in action when he was still the master of the one shot one kill. That would be a REAL prequel!
