Optimum Home Entertainment has announced ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction for Blu-ray release in the UK on October 18. ZMD is a horror comedy (with a heavy dose of political satire), set in a small island town in Washington state that finds itself overrun with zombies.

Extras include:

The Making of Zombies of Mass Destruction
Trailer

Basically...THE BEST NEW ZOMBIE FLICK  IN YEARS NOW!!!!

I really like the fact that the comedy is there, but its still pretty freakin' dark and gory too.  Love it!

From Horror-Movies.ca

After winning the Spirit Award at the Slamdance Film Festival and playing before enthusiastic audiences at Comic-Con, Hot Docs, AFI Dallas, Fantastic Fest, and the Mill Valley Film Festival, ZOMBIE GIRL: THE MOVIE is now coming to a store near you.

A documentary LA Weekly says “has raw passion and real spirit,” ZOMBIE GIRL: THE MOVIE tells the story of 12-year-old filmmaker Emily Hagins and the two years she spent directing her feature-length zombie movie, PATHOGEN.  Bitten by the movie bug at a young age, Emily wrote to Peter Jackson -- of LORD OF THE RINGS fame -- letting him know about her aspirations.  Jackson put her in touch with fellow Austin resident and legendary film guru, Harry Knowles, who introduced her to the zombie genre.  With that, Emily had found her muse.

ZOMBIE GIRL: THE MOVIE is a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the explosive new world of youth filmmaking.  Eric Kohn at IndieWire says it “proves that there is no age limit on cinematic expression.”  It’s the quintessential film for any family with a child who says, “I want to make a movie!”

With the help of her mother as agent, crew, and biggest fan, Emily launches an epic adventure in filmmaking.  She uses all the digital tools available to her tech-savvy generation, and along the way battles everything from budget shortfalls to self doubt -- all while coming of age as a teenager.  Rick Warner from the Bloomberg Press calls it a “funny, tender look at her journey as a first-time director.”

The dvd release of ZOMBIE GIRL: THE MOVIE includes Emily’s completed, feature-length zombie movie, PATHOGEN.  A portion of each sale goes to support Emily’s filmmaking efforts, which include her recently begun third feature film.  She is shooting it this summer and plans to finish post-production throughout the year (as her school and homework schedules permit).

Included in the DVD are:

Pathogen (Emily's movie)
Q&A at Pathogen Premier
Interview on Emily's second feature "The Retelling"
Interview with Emily for her Third Film
Original movie Trailer

Thomas Haden Church, the man who's career has sent him from Wings to Demon Knight to Spider-Man 3 and Sideways, will next be seen in Zombie Roadkill, the horror-comedy premiering on FearNET that also stars David Dorfman and was directed by David Green.

Church plays as a tough-as-nails Park Ranger who teams with an unsuspecting teenager to escape a cursed stretch of highway that resurrects roadkill in the form of flesh eating zombie animals. Ghost House produced ZR which is getting some play at Fantastic Fest on September 24 at the Alamo Drafthouse (1120 South Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78704).

They'll be handing out posters like the one you see below and a Zombie Roadkill taco truck will be on the scene this Friday and Saturday to keep attendees well fed (I'd be suspect of the meat they're using...I kid, of course). ZR kicks off on FearNET October 4.

German zombie flick, Siege of the Dead

Taking its cues from the grim, minimalist realism of [Rec] and 28 Days Later and the fast and furious zombie action of Zack Snyder’s Dawn Of The Dead remake, Siege Of The Dead (aka Rammbock), the superb debut feature from writer Benjamin Hessler and director Marvin Kren, is an invigorating addition to a burgeoning new wave of Euro-horror movies that is currently putting Hollywood to shame in terms of spirit and originality.

When lovelorn Michael arrives in Berlin to return a set of keys to his ex-girlfriend, Gabi, as an excuse to see her again, he finds her apartment empty save for a couple of plumbers making repairs to the central heating. Just as Michael learns from the plumber’s apprentice, Harper, that Gabi has popped out for a while but will return soon, the apprentice is attacked by his boss who has unexpectedly and inexplicably transformed into a raging madman. Together, Michael and Harper manage to bundle the crazed plumber out of the apartment and barricade themselves safely inside. Within minutes, they find themselves trapped in apartment block under siege from a horde of similarly insane people, apparently hungry for human flesh.

The radio news reports of a deadly virus spreading throughout Berlin, transmitted by body fluids via bites and bleeding wounds. The result is a city overrun by bloodthirsty zombies. Surrounded by the undead, Michael and Harper have to figure out how to stay alive long enough to get out of the building safely and, if Michael has anything to do with it, find Gabi along the way.

The latest on the sequel to The Zombie Diaries...

As we told you earlier, Kevin Gates and Michael Bartlett's follow is called World of the Dead: The Zombie Diaries 2. Below, you'll find the American Film Market art and a full synopsis.

Three months have passed since a viral outbreak wiped out 99.9% of the world's population, turning its victims into flesh-eating living dead. In the UK, a surviving band of soldiers and civilians have taken refuge at the rural military barracks.

Life in this new world is tough and brutal, but hope appears when a high level communication is received from a military base on the coast, telling of sanctuary elsewhere in Europe...

But just as salvation appears to be in reach, the base suffers an overwhelming defeat at the hands of the living dead!

The surviving handful of troops and civilians must now make their way to the coast to uncover the truth behind the message. Their perilous journey takes them across a now treacherous, death-ravaged landscape, where the living dead are vast in number and wandering bandits impose their own malicious sense of law and order.

What follows is a journey into hell and a desperate battle against all odds for the very survival of the human race.

Author Joe R. Lansdale (Bubba Ho Tep) is about to bring his zombies to the big screen.

Lansdale's latest short story, to be released in early 2011, is ready to be made into a movie: "Christmas with the Dead."

The author will act as an executive producer on the project. Damian Maffei will star for director Brian James Fitzpatrick. Marcus Koch with Oddtopsy F/X is scheduled to create the special effects for the movie.

Shooting begins this June in Nacogdoches, Texas, where Lansdale has lived with his wife for the past thirty years. In a nod to Joe's affiliation as writer-in-residence at the Stephen F. Austin University, Lansdale will be employing the use of many of the students, as well as the use of some of the school's state of the art equipment. Joe sees this association with the university as an opportunity to give the students a hands-on film-making experience.

"I'm excited about it moving forward and very fortunate to have some fine people at the helm. I'm looking forward to begin filming this summer," says Landsdale.

Fitzpatrick is thrilled to be part of the project, It's all coming together very quickly - taking on a life of its own - which I think is what happens with strong projects where everyone has the same vision; the same passion. And a Lansdale zombie movie is pretty damn strong."

As for the film's synopsis, Landsdale breaks it down like this: It was a foolish thing to do, and Calvin had not bothered with it the past two years, not since the death of his wife and child. But this year he decided quite suddenly, that tomorrow was Christmas Eve. And zombies be damned, the lights and decorations are going up...

http://www.shorenewstoday.com/index.php/hamilton-twp/hamilton-twp-general-news/7100-zombies-to-invade-local-pub-for-horror-movie-benefit.html

From STYD

The Sopranos Vincent Pastore and former porn star Jasmin St. Claire are set to star in Blood Lodge.

Details on the film were revealed through a New Jersey paper reporting on a benefit event.

Joel Reed, director of the 1976 flick Bloodsucking Freaks, is co-producing the horror-comedy which is being described as Zombieland meets Dazed and Confused.

"A zombie attack happens in the fictional town of Ten Acres while a group of friends travel for a ski weekend," writer-director Kevin Orosz told the paper. "The group unites with other guests staying at the Ten Acres Lodge and tries to stay alive by fighting the zombies."

The film should be ready to hit the indie scene next year from Graffiti Playhouse Productions.

Back in January, we heard from director Howard J. Ford on the distribution prospects for the zombie epic he and his brother Jonathon directed called THE DEAD; at the time, Ford claimed he turned down a multitude of offers to send the flick straight to DVD, instead opting to focus on getting a theatrical roll-out for his horror opus. Thankfully, it looks as though that's finally happened.

According to Screen Daily, Global Cinema Distribution has landed the picture and will distribute in North America. The release date remains to be seen.

Additionally, Anchor Bay Starz UK has taken UK rights, MIG Film Group acquired the film for Germany and Hopscotch will distribute in Australia... It looks like this is just the beginning for THE DEAD, which garnered solid reviews when it premiered at Fantastic Fest last year. (Check out the Arrow's take right HERE.)

Naturally, we'll let you know when some solid release dates are announced. For now, refresh yourself with this creepy undead nightmare by watching the trailer below.

So a brief press release for an Israeli zombie film just entered our inbox, replete with a cool looking teaser-trailer for the low-budget effort. The film is called ANOTHER WORLD, directed by Eitan Reuven. Upon scoping the official Facebook Page for the film, we were able to glean a little more of what it entails. Peep it...

The movie is a post-apocalyptic horror/science fiction film. the setting is in a near post apocalyptic future where a biological warfare program goes wrong, and turns most of humanity to mindless, murderous creatures.

There are five characters, which are still uninfected, trying to survive constant attacks by the infected. each one of them represents in some way a different aspect of human existence, a different world-view, but most important, a different moral view about the world and his/her place in it

The Colonel - A professional soldier. represents the political-military-economic establishment, which sees life as a constant violent struggle for power and resources.

The Doctor - Represents a commitment to love, justice and non-violent struggle against all wrong.

The Wizard - A young man, an inventor and an autodidact scientist, who looks at life as a puzzle to be solved. he strives to discover, understand and invent, with no thought as to the consequences.

The Daughter - A simple girl with simple ambitions - sailing through life enjoying every comfort, while ignoring or unaware of bigger and more profound issues.

The Mouser - A murderer and rapist, evil in the most banal aspect of the word.

All along, as the characters evolve, they listen to a daily radio program dealing with the extinction of the dinosaurs, finding correlating themes to their own situation. as the protagonists move and try to survive, and as their world views and correlations to the situation are gradually reveled, the following themes are explored: the essence of evil, the boundaries of moral responsibility, species (and humankind) extinction, love, grace, euthanasia and more.

Poisoned

Bino Aharonovitch is a legendary Israeli war hero. His son Danny is far from it. He does his national service a s an assistant custodian in a remote base which serves as the home base of “Nachlieli” (the Wagtail) — one of the IDF’s elite units. He spends his days avoiding the violent soldiers and his OCD captain.

But on Passover night, the worst night for an Israeli custodian, his life is about to change. His high-school crush Maya arrives to deliver vaccines to the fighters. She mistakes Danny for one of the fighters and shows interest in him for the first time. Danny keeps up the lie, but fate has different plans. The vaccine makes the elite troops turn into flesh-eating zombies who go on killing the rest of the soldiers in the base.

Danny, being the only one left uninfected, runs for his life – until he finds out that he isn’t the only survivor. Used to avoiding conflict, he now realizes that this time there is no escape.

Danny is going to have to utilize his only skills in order to save himself and his love – gardening skills!
