Okay, had it not been for Larry I wouldn't have even realized this was about to be released!!!
You guys need to help me be more informed.
I must say, this doesn't give me tingles like Haute Tension STILL DOES after 30+ viewings! Actually I don't know how many times I have watched it but it never gets old.
MIRRORS in theatres August 15 ...

I have been looking forward to this film since it was first announced ages ago that Aja would be the one doing it.
High Tension was a high bar to set and while Hills Have Eyes was better than the original, I'm glad that Alexandre turned down the chance to direct the second one. I'm not the biggest fan of Kiefer in the world, but I'm anxious to see how this movie turns out.

Uh, I don't think Aja's remake of Hills is better than the original. Its groovy and all, but I prefer the OG. It is all about the family.

The remake is my favorite and is actually one of my favorite remakes. I really only have a couple of gripes about it and they aren't major.

Looking at all the reviews, it seems A LOT of people hated it , A LOT of people thought it was just okay and only a handful thought it was good. I keep hearing the word "ridiculous" used when describing the 2nd half of the film, that's not good.
I will go see it tomorrow afternoon because I'm a huge Aja fan, but I'm a tad worried based on what I have read. He is due for a slip up after the first two, I just hope it's not goodness awful.

I seriously may do that now that the city we will be living in has a theatre. I feel like a modern day citizen for the first time in 13 yrs. I'll let ya know when I see it but I have a feeling it won't overly impress me.

Saw Mirrors today and I thought it was a really, really good movie. It's not a "great" horror movie and it just might the weakest of the 3 films Aja has done. When I say weakest, I mean that in a good way if that's possible. Yes, you have the "money shots" in the film aka the bath tub scene and the opening scene, but this movie is far more moody and almost a noir type film. I will go through the criticisms I read about online before I saw the movie.
#1 Keifer Sutherland overacting or "chewing" through every scene. When the film starts Keifer is no longer a cop because of an accident regarding him killing another cop. He is a recovering alcoholic with 2 kids, he no longer lives with his family and the only job he can get is the night security guard at the burned out department store. So his character is already on edge to begin with, when shit starts to go down in the story, it doesn't take long before he goes over the edge.
#2 Keifer curses to a point where it becomes laughable. I can only recall one time in the film where it felt like the cursing was overdone, it was established in the first scene with his wife, the cursing and it felt natural from within him as the movie progressed.
#3 The film should be re-cut and called 24: The Exorcism. EVERYTHING Keifer does for the rest of his career will be tied to that fucking tv show. I know he isn't the first nor the last actor to be remembered for one role, but fucking ridiculous if you can't get over that and it ruins the film for you. I have only seen the first season of 24, haven't seen and don't give two shits about any of the previous seasons.
#4 The film turns into a murder/mystery investigation in the 2nd half of the film. As I said above, while this is a horror movie, it does come across as a noir type film as it unfolds. He finds the note in the previous security guard's wallet and it goes from there. You have to have a reason for why things are happening, you have to have some kind of resolution.
#5 The climax and Keifer's fight with a possessed nun. Yes, the ending is over the top, but you walked into a movie about mirrors that fucking kill people, are you REALLY going to nitpick when you get to the finale. Were you able to buy everything else, but not that??? Fucking ridiculous.
I know High Tension did and still does divide the horror community, much like Eli Roth's Cabin Fever. I can understand the love/hate response this film is getting, but it's a decent movie. It's actually a really good movie.
Any case, that's my two cents.

I LOVE Cabin Fever because it was fun picking up on all the references to the classic 70's horror films. Not to mention the use of David Hess music from Last House throughout the early part of the film.
The film, Cabin Fever, is uneven in a lot of ways, it didn't bother me, but I think that's what turned people off. I do agree is was better than Hostel and I won't compare it to Hostel 2 considering the abortion that film was.
Mirrors will likely get around 10-12 million this opening weekend, so you figure it will likely get around 25 million domestic for its total run, plus a decent amount on DVD. That's a success to me considering the films it's going up against.

How is Cabin Fever uneven? The thing I liked about it is the fact that its so extreme, but not so extreme enough to put it past the reactions a human being would actually have in the films situation. I could totally see people that I know and/or have met, acting in the same way...yeah, kinda fucked up, but true. Plus its just gross, I dig that.

It mixes horror, comedy, drama, "teen film" etc, etc.
It throws all of those in a pot and out comes Cabin Fever. I think Eli did a great job with it, but it does tend to go back and forth a great deal. I think that's one of the things that makes the film great, I just remember reading at the time that some people were turned off by it.
Even though it is a really tame film considering the shit that comes out of Asia, the film is pretty violent for the average United States movie person and some of that stuff is completely out there and didn't sit well with John Q public. Even if John Q public is the same jackass that sits in test screenings and ruins a lot of horror films before they are even released.
I thought it was great when Eli mentioned in the commentary that the liquor being poured on the guy's cock after sex was based on a real life incident in his own life. lol

Isn't that the same movie where the girl fucks the dude with a dildo? If so, I didn't really like it.
