“After two miscarriages, writer Adam Shay’s marriage is on the rocks. On a walk through local woods rumored to be haunted, Adam come across a strange sight: a statue of a half-man, half-goat creature, a satyr from ancient legends, that comes to life before his eyes.

Soon, all the women in town begin disappearing, summoned to the woods by the satyr’s hypnotic piping. When Adam gathers the menfolk to hunt down the satyr and save the women, what they uncover is an unholy evil bent on protecting itself and spreading its seed…â€

Wow, there is actually a movie coming from this book?
Aren't most of B-rye's books waiting to make movie debuts?

Dark Hollow is a great book. It would make a cool movie.

Unfortunately Brian Keene's books have turned to shit since this one.

I haven't read Castaways, Ghost Walk, or Urban Gothic...so I couldn't say.  My favs from Brian are The Rising and Conqueror Worms (which I feel is his best writing to date).  The whole trying to be ghetto aspect of Dead Sea lost me, and the story wasn't really all that.  I'm a big Romero style zombie fan, hell they're my favorite, but I find The Rising to be far superior to Dead Sea.  And as for City of the Dead, it seems to be a sequel for a sequels sake, not as cool as The Rising.  He has a new one on the way, Darkness on the Edge of Town...

It was actually Ghost Walk and Castaways that lost me. Castaways was better than Ghost Walk but i though Ghost Walk was awful.

Fun fact. Brian Keene personally abused me on the Horror World forum a year or two ago.

I liked Conqueror Worms first story but when he jammed that second story with  the mermsunshine and giant fish gods in there,  it lost me. Sometimes when it is raining a lot here, I go sit  behind my chicken coop and pretend Conqueror Worms is happening and fantasize what I would do.

I found my account on his forum had been disabled, probably accidentally, and I pondered on the Horror World forum whether it was because I had been slagging off Ghost Walk. Keene came on and typed this long winded diatribe about how such an accusation was a slight against hi moderators and was rather agressive and childish about the whole thing. Told me I should probably not come back to his forum if that was my attitude etc etc.

Guess he isn't keene on criticism... hahaha.
Whatever.
Brian and I had a mutual friend years ago, and through him I met Brian.  A short while after that I went out to Brian's home and he took me to a pretty kick ass bookstore.  I found a ton of good shit there too!  Since then I have talked with him at conventions, but over the past couple of years he hasn't really been hitting them too much (maybe at all).  Some BS about someone sending him death threats or some crap. Personally, I think he might just be a bit paranoid.

I've read a fair bit of his stuff now and I really liked Ghoul, Dead Sea, Conquorer Worms and Dark Hollow.

Thought The Rising was just OK

Thought City of the Dead was pretty bad

Found Ghost Walk to be absolutely terrible.

Castaways was an improvement over Ghost Walk but not enough to encourage me to pick up any of his stuff since.
