As reported here last week, a piece in The New York Times has declared the horror genre dead, leaving us all with no choice but to divert our love and money toward some other genre or pursuit. We won’t have any further inspiration to murder toddlers. And if we’re going to commit heinous acts in the name of Our Lord Satan, we’ll have to do so without the well-planned blueprints of Hollywood screenwriters.

Lame horror websites like this one will review anything: scripts, magazines, books, movies, and your mother’s apple pie. As long as it makes us feel important and better than you, we will review it. So I decided to review Dread Central’s new podcast feature Splattrax, (why not) where each week, I guess, you can watch a bad movie at the same time as the DC gang and listen to them try to be Mystery Science Theater.
“I lost most of my respect for Eli Roth after the self important horse shit he wrote into the Fangoria horror magazine where he portrayed himself as a free speech martyr and visionary artist being victimized by a ‘dangerous climate of political correctness’ because some letter writer said he says ‘faggot’ too much. That was a grade-A jackass move right there that will make it hard to take his movies seriously.”

Editor’s Note: Molly and Royce have been fighting over the film “Audition” for as long as I can remember. So I agreed to let them have a little “friendly” argument right here on the site, so we can finally put and end to the damn thing. I have no idea what the hell either are talking about, I just can’t believe no one made a “I make pee pee in your coke” reference. That would of made me giggle, and isn’t that the point of HYB to make me giggle? Well anyway let the battle begin. Lets get ready to ruuuuuuuuuumble!
Darryl Knickrehm is the head of DK Productions and is the writer, director, editor, cinematographer, and producer of all of his films. Darryl is a filmmaker living and working in Japan that makes movies utilizing mostly Japanese resources such as actors and locations, while cleverly blending in western sensibilities. He has been compared to both Christopher Nolan (MEMENTO) and Shinya Tsukamoto (TETSUO) in his filmmaking techniques by other reviewers.
Hell, I am beginning to wonder if this highly anticipated movie actually exists. Normally, independent filmmakers upload multiple trailers onto their MySpace pages and cover their page with photos from shoots. But has anyone ever seen a still shot taken from the DWTS movie set? Can you find any footage online? How about just a single trailer? Nope. But I did see plenty of “fans” aka “Death Walkers” plastered all over their MySpace Page wearing DWTS merchandise…
“I don’t make shit off this. I went in the hole, but at least when I know that I get the stuff out there, somebody’s going to appreciate it. That is all that really matters to me.” – Mortimer A. London.
In honor of Black History month (aka 28 Days Even Later), I have scoured the internet, waxed poetically with men of science and have studied at length seemingly endless tomes dissecting the sociological impact of black cinema to bring you, the reader a bit of history. BLACK history that is. Welcome to the 13 greatest black horror characters of all time.

Like I said “Shaun of the Dead” was great but a movie like that only comes along every so often. So I beg everybody to please stop trying to make the next one, because I’m going to get stuck sitting through all the failed attempts.
Sorry it’s been awhile, I can only type with one hand right now. At any rate, on to round two of the ongoing series celebrating the female action hero. This time around it’s Foxy Brown and Cleopatra Jones.
Maybe it’s the gay in me, but I love movies, tv, or comics where there is a lone female warrior facing down an army, a monster, or any other bad guy or gal in her way. There is something more visually exciting about a woman shooting a machine gun, or brandishing a sword, than there is when a guy does it. They just look cuter (I think I just took all the air out of any feminist arguement I may have tried here).

Let’s see, what’s a good lead-in for a write-up about an Australian horror comedy centered around the stuffy sport of cricket? Lacking the gift of clever quips and puns, I’ll simply start with a quick synopsis: An unhinged cricket player avenges himself upon the teammates who plagued and tormented him years before.

The Descent was the best horror film of 2006. Did you need us to tell you that? End of discussion. Oh and the good names of The Omen, The Wicker Man and When a Stranger Calls were shat up by unnecessary remakes. And that French director proved that a remake can be well acted, well photographed and well directed and still be a pointless bore (The Hills Have Eyes).
Not a year goes by that I don’t Irish up a cup of coffee, get all snuggly on the couch, and enjoy the Christmas staples; “A Charlie Brown Christmas”, “A Christmas Story”, the Rankin/Bass classics, and my personal favorite, “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas”. But as the evenings grow longer and the nights get darker, the horror fan in me needs a little something more than even The Riverbottom Nightmare Band can deliver. So here’s a little X-Mas gift for you horror fans; the Top Five Holiday Horror films of all time!
The actual crime took place in Indianapolis in 1965, when the Indianapolis police received a disturbing call about a girl dying, what they found was even worse. The emaciated dead body of 16-year-old Sylvia Marie Likens was discovered with cigarette burns and the words: “I’M A PROSTITUTE AND PROUD OF IT!” etched into her body.
