Fans of George A. Romero’s classic DAWN OF THE DEAD might not recognize the name Jim Krut but they would immediately recognize his face. Well, perhaps not his face as much as everything slightly above his eyebrows, all of which was memorably torn away by the whirring blades of the WGON helicopter! That’s right, Jim Krut is none other than the uncredited actor now well known to hardcore horror fans as the helicopter zombie!
I decided to pick what was left of Jim’s brains and ask him about his incredible experience filming that classic scene…
Brain Hammer: Let me start from the beginning. How did you got the part in DAWN OF THE DEAD?
Jim Krut: I’d worked with Tom Savini many years before, in college and in theatre. Back in 1977 I was living in Pittsburgh and ran into Tom on the street. We both said, Hey, and then he asked if I’d be interested in a part in a movie he was involved with. I was on my way to a movie at the time and told him sure, give me a call. Tom gave me more details later and we met at his place to do the prosthetics and head castings.

Actor and entertainer Rex Sikes is best known to hardcore horror fans for starring as the ill fated Rodney in the cult classic 1976 exploitation favorite MASSACRE AT CENTRAL HIGH. I recently had the chance to ask Rex all about the filming of MASSACRE, his memories of the cast, his opinion of the film, and what he’s been up to lately. LET THE BLOODSHED BEGIN!!!

William Lustig is one of the rare horror directors/producers who actually seems to enjoy the horror genre. Twenty-eight years later his film Maniac is still disturbing people, and his Maniac Cop trilogy is a must see for all horror fans. Lustig’s last film was Uncle Sam before he went on to work for Anchor Bay and launching his own company Blue Underground bringing horror fans great lost films that may have never got a proper DVD release.
HORROR YEARBOOK: Welcome to Horror Yearbook, Georges. You’re the artist on Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 for Dark Horse Comics. How’s that going?
GEORGES JEANTY: It’s going great! All of the people at Dark Horse have been incredibly gracious! This is my first gig with them and I couldn’t be more pleased. My editor, Scott Allie, has been very patient while I’ve tried to meet certain deadlines.
At the end of last week Scream Queen extraordinaire Tiffany Shepis found Horror Yearbook’s Tyler Shainline hiding in the bushes by her house. He had just gotten done digging through her garbage can looking for tossed out memorabilia from “Tromeo & Juliet,” “The Hazing,” “Delta Delta Die!” or any of the fifty plus projects she’s worked on since entering the horror world over ten years ago. Rather than call the police she agreed to answer some questions about the After Dark Horrorfest film “Nightmare Man,” her upcoming projects, other freaky fans she’s found in her driveway, the uncomfortable nature of low budget films and just why her Fridays are so “Fabulous!”

When I originally contacted director Carlos Atanes about his collection of short films Codex Atanicus, he warned me about what I was getting myself into and of course I didn’t listen. After I watched everything on the DVD, including the intro by actress Arantxa Pena, and the trailers for his other films, I was left wondering how a guy who makes his living talking about titties 95% of the day was going to review something like this. So before I went out and made a fool out of myself once again, I thought “fuck it,” I’ll just ask Carlos to explain them himself.

A HORROR YEARBOOK QUICKIE INTERVIEW WITH: Mark Verheiden: My Name is Bruce
Robert Englund, the man who made “A Nightmare on Elm St.’s” Freddy Kruger a household name returns to directing for the first time in almost two decades with “Killer Pad.” The direct-to-DVD movie available from Lionsgate centers around three hapless losers who move into a sweet pad in the Hollywood Hills that just happens to be a direct portal to hell. Mr. Englund was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to talk with Horror Yearbook’s Tyler Shainline about his latest directorial effort, “Star Wars” casting rumors, playing an upcoming “Spider-Man” villain, his television work, “Zombie Strippers” and whether or not he’ll return as Freddy in the upcoming Micheal Bay produced remake of “Elm St.”

“When I was fifteen, we had a family dog that was a puppy when I was in my infancy. So you can imagine how close I was to the animal at the tender age. My Father forced me to kill the dog using a shotgun. I unfortunately committed this task, but in doing so missed most of the dog. He suffered for many moments in front of me. It was my brother who finally laid him to rest. I saw a school psychiatrist briefly after the event, stated: “Every time you have dark feelings or thoughts, write them down.” So here I am.”
