2009 Bram Stoker Award Nominees

Here are the 2009 Bram Stoker Award Nominees:

Each year, the Horror Writers Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement in the field of horror writing, named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of the seminal horror work Dracula. Since 1987, the approximately 500 members of the HWA have recommended, nominated and voted on the greatest works of horror and dark fantasy of the previous calendar year, making the Stokers the most prestigious award in the field of horror literature.

The organization’s Active members will select the winners from this ballot; voting will close on March 3rd, and the awards will be presented this year at a gala banquet on Saturday evening, March 27, at the World Horror Convention in Brighton, UK.

Max Brooks’ Recorded Attacks Graphic Novel Info

Here is some quick cut & paste news from Dread Central. Max Brooks’ The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks is due out October 6th.

“Those who don’t learn from history are condemned to repeat it. From the Stone Age to the information age, the undead have threatened to engulf the human race. They’re coming. They’re hungry. Don’t wait for them to come to you! This is the graphic novel the fans demanded: major zombie attacks from the dawn of humanity. On the African savannas, against the legions of ancient Rome, on the high seas with Francis Drake… every civilization has faced them. Here are the grisly and heroic stories–complete with eye-popping artwork that pulsates with the hideous faces of the undead. Organize before they rise! Scripted by the world’s leading zombie authority, Max Brooks, Recorded Attacks reveals how other eras and cultures have dealt with–and survived–the ancient viral plague. By immersing ourselves in past horror we may yet prevail over the coming outbreak in our time.”

This Issue of Playboy has Some Teeth

The great month of October is nearly upon us and with every general store stocked with candy corn, eye ball jaw breakers and gummi spiders, their will also be shelves filled with a vampire issue of Playboy. That’s right folks, you’ll think you’re watching Misty Mundae’s Crimson Tide after picking up this issue. It’s filled with lustful vampire nudity, vampire articles, and most likely, and these would be my favorite, the vampire cartoons.

The Undead she-bloodsuckers are back and lets keep them kicking. It has been vampire mania ever since Twilight made an appearance on the big screen and spawning television shows such as True Blood (which rocks by the way) and now Vampire Diaries.

“The movie event of the Fall is the comic book event of this Summer! Juno’s award-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody brings you Jennifer’s Body starring Megan Fox as a demonically-possessed cheerleader with a taste for killing teenage boys! Black Metal’s Rick Spears brings you even more hellish Jennifer stories with art by HACK/SLASH’s Tim Seely, Kick Drum Comix’s Jim Mahfood, DMZ’s Nikki Cook, and Popgun’s Ming Doyle.”

Army of Darkness: Ash Saves Obama

According to MTV this is not a joke! President Obama will be teaming up with Evil Dead’s Ash in Dynamite Entertainment’s “Army of Darkness: Ash Saves Obama” comic book!

Written by Elliot Serrano (”Xena/Army of Darkness”), with art by Ariel Padilla and covers by “Spider-Man/Obama” artist Todd Nauck, the four-issue series hits shelves in August. Ash meets up with the 44th President of the United States at a comic book convention and must save him from the Necronomicon demons.

This is possibly one of the gayest ideas I have heard all year… And if you find yourself buying a copy, it may be the reason you never get laid.

Dusk: The Story of Getting Your Own Comic Published

[Editor's Note: Horror Yearbook is always looking for ways to help out the little guy, but to be honest the little guy sometimes makes it hard to do so. Upstart filmmakers, comics artist and so on are sometimes not very good at promoting their own stuff, or getting material to the websites that will take the time to feature them. So when David Doub approached me about his graphic nove,l Dusk, I decided to let him write his own story about the up-and-downs of trying to get his vampire comic published, below is that story]

New Twilight Book Announced!

Check out the new Twilight book from Stephenie Meyer.

Book Review: The Vampire Diaries The Awakening

The Awakening is the first book in the popular series, The Vampire Diaries aimed at young adults. It was originally released in the early 90’s and was re-released in 2007. The Awakening really hasn’t aged a bit since it’s original release. Since then it has reached an entirely new audience and has been picked up for a TV pilot by the CW.

Vampire Diaries Headed to the CW

Twilight and HBO’s True Blood have helped the vampire make a comeback (mostly Twilight), and now the CW is looking to get in on the action by picking up the pilot for, Vampire Diaries.

Don’t Miss The last issue of Sirens of Cinema Vol. 2

I have nothing against Rue Morgue, but it always surprised me that other horror websites give them free ads by publishing their Rue Morgue preview each month (Or maybe they do get something out of it, I have no idea). So I thought this month I would give you a preview of a magazine that battles for my attention and money every time I visit the book store — Sirens of Cinema.

No Way! Warlock and Leprechaun Comics

Lionsgate is teaming up with Bluewater Comics to make Warlock and Leprechaun comics. Pretty cool, but we all know how well this went for Fangoria’s now defunct comic line…Not very well.

Hack/Slash vs Halloween Man Contest

First of all you can check out the Hack/Slash vs Halloween Man comic for free here, or check out the first four pages below. There is also a contest for some original artwork plus some T-shirts. Details after the jump.

No Preacher for HBO

The network who brought us Todd Mcfarlane’s very dark, Spawn and the violent Rome, has passed on turning Garth Ennis’ comic book, Preacher into a one-hour series because it is too dark and violent.
