One is known for starring on 90210, and the other is the queen of child porn — AnnaLynne McCord (pictured) and Traci Lords star in Excision.

Anchor Bay Films announced today the acquisition of all North American distribution rights to director/writer Richard Bates, Jr.’s debut feature film. Excision is the story of Pauline (McCord), a delusional teenage outcast. Pauline picks scabs. Pauline dissects road kill. Pauline fantasizes about performing surgery on strangers. Her fascinations disturb her schoolmates and her parents, Phyllis (Lords) and Bob (Roger Bart). No one understands Pauline except for Grace (Ariel Winter), her younger sister who suffers from cystic fibrosis. An outcast at school and at home, Pauline is convinced that the best way to repair her estranged relationship with her family is to perform a risky operation to save her sister’s life.

The movie also stars John Waters, who directed Lords in Cry Baby, Malcolm McDowell, Jeremy Sumpter and Marlee Matlin.

Hinzman is considered the first modern day zombie by many horror fans. He is also known for his work in the The Crazies, Santa Claws, There’s Always Vanilla and for directing the 1988 film FleshEater. Hinzman will be missed.

Women in Horror Month was cooked up by a bunch of failed artists and filmmakers to make themselves feel better. Simply put: it’s blackmail. A bunch of unknown wannabes get together to tell websites, blogs, and magazines that they should support their cause, then call them sexist if they don’t. The only people who care about Women in Horror Month, besides the people behind it, are a bunch of white knights who hope calling other men misogynistic will get them laid once in their life.

The goal of Women in Horror Month is not to celebrate women in horror, but to promote the projects and blogs of a very small group of female horror fans. A group of people who have to latch onto other’s achievements in order to make themselves feel relevant. Not only is WIHM a manipulative misguided attempt at hijacking horror blogs, it also has nothing to do with the horror genre (not to mention it’s pretty ballsy to declare black history month your month too).

The “horror community” is a made up term people throw around like “horror journalism”. There is no “horror community,” and if there was, it wouldn’t be some exclusive “no girls allowed” man’s club. What it is is just a bunch of fans who happen to know each other because they all like the same niche thing, but people throw the term community around like their members of an exclusive cult. Why do certain horror fans demand we support everything because of this fictional community? Just because I enjoy watching horror films doesn’t mean I have to support every person with a digital camera who spoke to me at a party once, or every dumb idea like Women in Horror Month. I also don’t understand why this only happens with horror films. You don’t see a bunch of women demanding respect because they enjoy westerns, or people politicizing every romantic comedy.

And what are we recognizing exactly? That women appear in horror films? That there are women directors? That women can drive cars? This is all common knowledge. And why do we need to recognize women horror fans? Who gives a shit! Cool! That’s so great that you’re different than the majority of women who don’t like horror; that’s amazing that you’re so different and unique, have a fucking cookie, stop talking about it, and let’s just talk about the goddamn movies. When did being a horror fan become so much about being a horror fan and so little about the films themselves?! WIHM is twice as bad as every month in the “horror community” because it’s not just about people bragging about how much of a fan they are, it’s about a minority group within the fandom bragging about how special they are for being fans! Do I need to be reminded once a year that women also watch football? No, because it has nothing to do with my enjoyment of football.

The worst part of it all is that the women who we’re being asked to celebrate aren’t even impressive figures in the genre. Nor do most of them promote positivity towards women in an already horribly misogynistic genre. No, the people we’re supposed to celebrate are some female blogger’s female friend who took her top off in Ass of the Living Dead 3 and signed a picture of herself while smoking a cigarette outside of a convention for some obese basement-dwelling pervert. And later, he jerked off to it. Now, let’s interview her for Women In Horror Month!

If women want to be recognized for their work in the low budget horror genre that is fine, but they should earn it like anyone else does, not demand it once a year in February. Put in the time, do the work, and wait till your fans want to celebrate you for your work in horror movies. Because it’s about the movies; not your friends, and certainly not you.

Longtime Horror Yearbook contributer Kelsey Zukowski has teamed up with Travis Legge (Raymond Did It) to produce the short dark drama Words Like Knives. Written by and starring Zukowski, the movie follows Emma, a girl who seems to have it all until one mean-spirited rumor tears her life apart.

“Words Like Knives deals with very disturbing material, but that’s part of the point. I like tackling uncomfortable material. I find it far more interesting. It’s a delicate balance between seeming exploitative and meaningfully bringing out the darker side of humanity,” explains Zukowski. “I’m thrilled with the team that has signed on for the project. Everyone involved really believes in what the film is trying to accomplish and will be a part in bringing this disquieting vision to life.”

That team includes Valerie Meachum (Holiday Carvings), Myke Wilson (Event Invitation), Melissa Revels (Monster Mash) and Aley Kreinz. Shooting begins in April 2012 in Rockford, IL.

Although, it tackles very taboo material, Words With Knives also deals with the universal themes of a rumor spinning out of control and how damaging idle gossip can be.

Plot:
