Half Moon tells the story of a city gripped with fear because of a man killing prostitutes. When down on her luck prostitute Rose (Shellie Chapman aka Tori Black) goes to a hotel to meet a man who seems like the perfect guy things soon change and she suspects he could be the killer …or worse a Werewolf!
Above is the synopsis of Half Moon as taken from IMDb.com. The only thing that is true is the word “prostitute”. While we are told by Rose’s pimp who, for the record, is the only decent character in the film, that one of his girls had been killed and he was establishing a new set of rules. A friend of Rose’s who is not under the thumb of a pimp, gets busted by the cops and leaves her cell phone behind. She takes a call to go see a John who will pay her $3000 just to keep him company. The John, whose name is Jacob, might be a werewolf. Having said that, this movie has no werewolves.
We actually sit through Rose and Jacob’s “date” in real time. They have dinner, make small talk and, after Rose begs him to, they have sex. The hooker in this movie does not have to have sex to get paid, yet she insists upon it. So far, the lack of a plot is giving me a headache. After they have sex, she walks into the bathroom and finds tranquilizers, cocaine, rope and a gun. Rose assumes Jacob is the killer and injects him with the tranquilizer, then sits in the room and waits for him to wake up. Go back and read that last sentence again. I love horror movies. I love the cliches and the stupid actions of the lead girl. But it still makes no sense for her to wait for the killer to wake up. Even worse, she calls her pimp and tells him to come help her with a man that she knocked out and still has not gotten any money from. Naturally, he comes to the hotel and punches Rose in the stomach. His pimp hand is strong, but his hatred of bull shit is stronger. The pimp decides to get his tools and break into Jacob’s hotel safe. He leaves for thirty minutes. I’m not a criminal mastermind, but I think if I’m going to own tools so the purpose of breaking into hotel safes, I would take them with me when I went to a hotel. Yet he clearly drives all the way back to his apartment to get them.

Magnet may single handedly save the horror genre this year with its interesting and great lineup of genre films. One of their more intriguing releases is Rubber, about a tire named Robert with telepathic powers. The film is currently available on VOD, and will have a limited theatrical run starting April 1. Check out the new poster and vidcaps of Roxane Mesquida’s shower scene from the movie below.

My favorite rape/revenge film may be getting a sequel. According to Shock Till You Fart, North Bank Entertainment wants to make a sequel to the controversial Italian David Hess film, House on the Edge of the Park.
“UK-based North Bank Entertainment is spearheading the effort to sequelize the film. Ruggero Deodato will direct from a story he cooked up with Giovanni Lombardo Radice. On scripting duties is Andrew Jones.”

Nicolas Cage’s new flick, Drive Angry, scored the worst opening for a 3D movie this Oscar weekend.
According to Box Office Mojo, Drive Angry earned a disappointing $5.1 million on close to 2,500 screens at 2,290 locations. “That’s the weakest launch yet for a major release in the newfangled 3D format, trailing prior low My Soul to Take” ($6.8 million).

It’s not Horror Yearbook’s birthday, I can’t even remember when the site was born (sometime in 2006), it’s my birthday. I normally don’t make such self-indulgent posts, but I wanted to share my Bloody Birthday cake that my sister and niece made for me because it’s pretty fartacular! See you on Monday!
Now out of the tomb, everyone is expecting Katherine to be stirring up trouble. No one expected her to be helpful though. Even when she makes an effort, everyone is still on their guard, given so many reasons not to trust her. As much as they hate to admit it, they may need Katherine. She’s the oldest of them and knows the history of Mystic Falls. She was chased and hunted by Klaus. She knows exactly what they’re up against. After all she is still around to tell the tale.
I had low expectations for the horror genre in 2011. After a lackluster 2010, and a nonexistent 2011 theatrical schedule, it looked like horror fans might be disappointed and letdown again this year. But there is hope! Magnolia Pictures’ Magnet Releasing has some great films lined up, and the vampire film Stake Land (not Magnolia) delivers what Daybreakers failed to bring — a nasty, violent vampire apocalypse.

The family from We Are What We Are are picky eaters, they don’t eat whores or homosexuals, and who can blame them? As the saying goes… You are what you eat. Check out two great clips from the new cannibal film below.

During an interview with MTV Emma Roberts almost spoiled her character’s demise. When asked about the Scream 4 trailer, Roberts told MTV’s Josh Horowitz, “I was terrified. I was there when we shot it and I’m still scared. I thought I…I thought I…nothing! I’m like…”
When asked if she almost gave away a spoiler, she said: “I actually almost just did — big time!”
Abandoned hospitals. They are staples in the horror genre for almost as long as movies have been around. Psych:9 is the next film of a creepy, rundown health facility that becomes the gloomy and grim setting of dastardly and grisly deeds being done in the dark night. Andrew Shortell directs his first full length feature film and though he conveys are very reactive unsettling atmosphere, his ability to tell the story cohesively deems to much for the short film director.

Angel of Vengeance is the novel that inspired the TV show, Moonlight [Editor's note: Not Moonlighting], which has been unpublished until now. I have not seen the show, but just based on how the author talks about the two, it seems that the novel is the grittier, more uncompromised version of the story. It makes sense since this is the original version. Things were romanticized a bit more for the television audience. With Angel of Vengeance we are given a vampire hard boiled noir tale of addiction, seduction, and deceptions, just to name a few of the compelling components that keeps this story going at a fast pace, and keeps you interested every step of the way.

Empire magazine talked to Rob Zombie after his Manchester gig during his first UK tour since 1990. Zombie plans to start shooting his new film, The Lords of Salem on April 18th, as soon as he gets home. This is what he had to say about the movie:
“There were twenty people that everyone knows about – obviously all innocent – executed as witches in Salem,” explains Rob. “The basic premise of the film is that there were a further four who actually were witches, who were killed secretly, and vowed one day to return to wreak havoc on Salem’s descendants. That’s when the movie jumps ahead to the present day and things start to go wrong…”

2010 was a bad year for horror films, and 2011 may be worst. Horror fans will have to wait until April to see a horror film on the big screen. According to the L.A. Times, The Weinstein Company has decided not to release the horror thriller Shelter in U.S. theaters.
“A person close to the situation who was not authorized to speak about it publicly said that the movie was pulled because it had opened in a number of international territories, including the U.K. and Japan, many months ago. And theater chains, intent on encouraging day-and-date releases, were disinclined to play a movie that had already opened overseas and was even available on DVD in some countries. A Weinstein Co. spokeswoman declined to comment.”
