After four years of trying to support the independent horror scene I have been left a broken man. I was once an innocent horror fan who believed the words of Lloyd Kaufman, and who gave indy filmmakers a free pass for creating shitty films. What I have learned over the years, is that the term independent horror film is not what I originally believed. It is a banner for people to hide behind, an excuse for lazy filmmaking, a means for Kaufman to flirt with dumb fangirls, and worst of all, it has become a waste of peoples time and money.

Production is gearing up on the horror film Room and Board starring Luke Goss, Katie Cassidy, Darcy DeMoss (Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI), William Katt, Burt Reynolds and Kane Hodder.
The black comedy is set to begin production early 2011 in Lousiana.
Room and Board sounds a little like Texas Chainsaw Massacre involving a popular bed and breakfast, owned by a deceptively attractive group of Russian women. The meat-cleaving matriarch of the family dies, leaving her bloody legacy to a gorgeous but conniving offspring; Natasha, a dancing, singing, blade-wielding psychopath, and her two daughters Masha & Sasha, who team up with “Grandpa” and Beau – a gator, who lives in an elongated doghouse outback and serves as a living garbage disposal.
This low budget horror effort from Texas stars Matthew Carter as Jasper Hawkins, a rather disturbed individual who finds himself traveling on foot to Backroad, a small Texas community, while a memorial service for his recently deceased father is being held. Jasper has sex with a girl in a motel room and makes off with her money. While he at first appears as somebody being haunted by personal demons (including unpleasant memories of his father from childhood), soon real-life demons (in both the literal and figurative sense) come into play when Jasper is hitchhiking and picked up by a seemingly kind and accommodating salesman named Joseph Iblis (Greg Dean) in a black 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. After pulling off the road when the salesman has some car trouble, Jasper kills him after he doesn’t laugh properly at a joke he tells him. Jasper then steals his car (after it’s been fixed) and continues on his journey to Backroad. A girl he meets up with at one point is bound and gagged and placed in the trunk of the Plymouth. Satanic voices are spoken by Jasper in flashbacks (including one of the moment before his father’s death) and he hears the same demon voices in his head while he’s traveling to his destination. Jasper’s actions soon yield unpleasant consequences as whatever supernatural force he’s encountered messes with his head, leading him to a truly unexpected fate.
From Texas filmmaker Kerry Beyer and Kerosene Films comes Spirit Camp, a delightfully entertaining slasher comedy highly respective of ‘80s horror.
A cheerleader’s mom takes her and her friends out to a cheerleading camp for the summer. Coming along for the ride are some cute, flighty cheerleaders looking towards a summer of practice and the occasional drugs and alcohol to sneak behind the backs of their trainers. Also along for the ride is a sarcastic, anti-establishment troublemaker of a girl who’s spent some time in a juvenile detention center and is going to the camp as part of her punishment. The local sheriff warns the girls that a maniac had escaped from a nearby asylum. Several characters come into play which of whom could possibly be this psycho, including a camp caretaker, a gas station attendant, and a whacky old dude. As nighttime nears, people soon start disappearing. It eventually becomes apparent that this psycho, whoever it may be, has begun his bloody axe and knife-wielding, cheerleading chopping spree and the remaining girls band together to try to reach authorities and find weapons to fight off the killer.

Diora Baird made it very clear on Twitter that she is NOT naked in Night of the Demons. Baird wore prosthetic titties while recreating the infamous disappearing lipstick scene. It’s not obvious from watching the trailer, but you can definitely tell by watching the clip below.
Slices of Life is an anthology film, showing just how fucked up and gruesome all aspects of life can be; home life, work life, and sex life. It has been in the works for the past 4 years and is starting it’s run on the film festival circuit, already nominated for a number of awards. It is packed full of an extremely talented cast and crew and brutal, suspenseful horror that shocks and thrills. This is one indie horror fans certainly won’t want to miss.

While adult film parodies like Avatar (link NSFW) are breaking sales records, porn based on popular horror films are in a decline. Director Dick Chibbles hopes to change that with Saw: A Hardcore Parody.
Ron Jeremy and Ginger Lynn reunite for the first time in over 25 years to battle, “Screwball” a homicidal maniac who is killing the top porn stars in the biz. Saw: A Hardcore Parody stars some of the top names in the adult industry doing what they do best to survive.
At short last, the inevitable sequel to last fall’s gajillion dollar grossing smash, Paranormal Activity is here, much to the delight of its producers wanting to cash in some more before the treasure teat runs dry. One couldn’t go onto any entertainment site last October without seeing an ad for Paranormal Activity or watching it reap more and more millions as the weeks went by. I seem to remember it making a bunch of Top 10 Horror lists on both the Best and Worst sides. A year removed the movie seems oddly quaint as no film could live up to the hype bestowed on it but it still manages to do something a Saw movie couldn’t in 3 craptacular sequels: Deliver a genuine fright.

Elena and Stefan are so glued to each other they can’t tear themselves apart from one another, even with the threat of Katherine murdering anyone and everyone that Elena cares about. They decide being secretive and sneaky is the way to go. The only problem is they aren’t all that great at this. Katherine is extremely close to getting exactly what she wanted. As Stefan suspected her being back in Mystic Falls doesn’t just have to do with her undying love for him, as always she has ulterior motives. She’s been toying with Mason and has actually gotten him to believe that she’s in love with him.

Dimension Films has hired Feast director John Gulager and Saw 3D scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to write Piranha 3 DD. Why is this bad news? Because I’m sure a reunited Feast team will turn the Piranha franchise into a bad comedy series. Expect Piranha meets The Hangover.
I know Alexandre Aja’s film involves a penis burping fish, but the reason it received such great reviews, is because it had the perfect blend of self-awareness, gore and humor. The Feast films are straight comedies, and I’m positive that is what we can expect from a Melton and Dunstan script — more wink at the camera moments, breaking the forth wall and plenty of Gulager family cameos.
