Sasha Grey in Rolling Stone Magazine

It says in Sasha Grey’s Rolling Stone spread that she reads Nietzsche, likes if rough and that she is liberating women one gangbang at a time. She sounds like every girl I dated from the ages of 15 to 25. I wonder what her favorite movies are Evil Dead and Sid and Nancy?

Anyway it is pretty amazing that someone who starred in We Suck! POV Tag-Team Suck-Off is getting this much attention from the press for starring in one Steven Soderbergh film. Traci Lords didn’t get this much attention for Not of This Earth, but she did manage to launch a film career from it. Actually Lords is still working today; she is currently starring in Tucker Max’s film I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.

Movie Review: House of the Black Wings

House of Black Wings is independent horror writer/director, David Schmidt’s second full feature. It is a character driven ghost story in a haunted house setting. Unlike many current films in the genre, it takes the time to build a story around our main characters. Suspense is gradually built up through dream sequences, illusions, and minor attacks from the creatures and spirits that seem to embody this house. So when the horror becomes unleashed further we actually care about what happens to the characters.

Kate Stone (Myette) has abandoned her music aspirations after getting a record deal with her band. Her dreams ended when her boyfriend and band mate was killed during one of their shows. Since then the group had a falling out and she has been going through a very rough time. Kate’s friend, Robyn, owns an apartment complex and she gives Kate a place to stay for awhile…

Brain Hammer’s PICKS FROM THE CRYPT Vol. 42: Campus Carve ‘Em Ups!

Gory greetings horroryearbook alumni! Your old pal Brain Hammer is back with another batch of Brain Hammer approved PICKS FROM THE CRYPT. This time around I’m throwing the spotlight on a terrible trio of overlooked and underrated 80’s slasher flicks featuring college campus carnage. LET THE BLOODSHED BEGIN!!!

With a title like THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, you know you are in for a treat. The dorm the title refers to is 75 year old Morgan Meadows Hall, a former college dormitory that is now condemned and slated for massive renovations. Within the first minute of the movie we see a sweaty, out of sorts fellow running away from something or someone near the dorm. As he cowers in the bushes, an unseen assailant makes their deadly presence known and begins strangling him and hacking away at his hand with a knife. Cue opening credits and some impressively violent sounding violin shrieks.

Michael Myers? Homeless Bum? Or Mankind?

I’m kind of over the white trash looking bum Michael Myers. I was trying not to be influenced by all the pictures (I even skipped watching the trailer), but I just can’t help the fact that I’m starting to dislike the look. It has nothing to do with old Myers vs new Myers, just a personal preference I guess. When I saw the latest pictures it immediately made me think of the wrestler Mankind (another white trash hero that I never cared for), but I’m not sure why, they really don’t look a lot alike. I can’t put my finger on it but I’m just not feeling this version of Mike and I think I’m starting to agree with the Zombie haters on this one.

Book Review: The Vampire Diaries: Dark Reunion

Dark Reunion is the last chapter in the first series of The Vampire Diaries. This book was written much later than the first three. The series was originally meant to be a trilogy and in some ways I would have liked to see it end with The Fury. It was a clean cut ending and while tragic, it served as a good ending to the story, leaving no loose ends behind.

Dark Reunion begins when Stefan gives Bonnie Elena’s diary. We read from Bonnie’s perspective as she tells us how things are now that all of the vampires are either dead or gone. It is clear things are not about to go back to normal anytime soon though. Bonnie has a terrible nightmare about Elena. It was as if something took over when Elena was trying to tell her something. She talks about the dream with her best friend, Meredith, and they figure out that the danger that took over her in the dream is coming to Fell’s Church to kill. They have no idea what they are against, but they know it is powerful and something very different than anything they have ever seen before. They figure out that Elena was trying to tell them to get outside help to fight this thing…

Sasha Grey at the Tribeca Film Festival

I love that in 2009 that the lines between porn and mainstream movies are becoming more blurred. If you play your cards right you could become a celebrity by “acting” in adult movies like Jenna Jameson, or you could even make the switch to mainstream films like Sasha Grey is doing. Not only is Grey starring in Lee Demarbre’s horror film Smash Cut (watch trailer) with David Hess, but she is also playing a call girl in Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience. Her movie career is going better than Amanda Righetti’s.

Below are a few pictures of Sasha at the Tribeca Film Festival, and do not forget Grey will be at Exxxotica in Miami May 8th – 10th, and so will Horror Yearbook.

Check out the pictures after the jump.

Possible Alien Prequel in the Works

Had enough aliens vs predators movies? Well it looks like that series may be over for now… Right on the heels of Robert Rodriguez’s announcement that he wants to reboot the Predator franchise, Fox Co-chairman Tom Rothman was quoted on the red carpet at the Wolverine premiere, saying that Ridley Scott is talking about making an Alien prequel.

Rothman said of the possible Aliens film, ‘There’s been some talk. Ridley Scott, is right now working on Robin Hood, but I think he’s toying with the idea and that would be great for us. I mean, it’s always been a matter of, really, if you can get the originator to do it that would be the greatest thing, so I’ve got my fingers crossed, all of them.’
