The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening

The Awakening is the first book in the popular series, The Vampire Diaries aimed at young adults. It was originally released in the early 90’s and was re-released in 2007. The Awakening really hasn’t aged a bit since it’s original release. Since then it has reached an entirely new audience and has been picked up for a TV pilot by the CW.
The Awakening begins with our protagonist, the beautiful and popular, Elena Gilbert, who has it all. She has always seemed to have a power over boys, often without even trying much. Every girl in school wants to be her. She’s the Homecoming Queen and pretty much has her whole world wrapped around her finger. After being in Europe over the summer she comes back to the small town of Fell’s Church to start off a new school year. She has this overwhelming fear that something horrible is going to happen. When she arrives at school the first day she is surprised by something, but pleasantly so. There is a new student, a transfer student from Italy named Stefan Salvatore. Just like every other girl, Elena is completely mesmerized by him. She even has a boyfriend, but has already claimed Stefan for herself. She begins thinking about her relationships with her boyfriend, Matt, and realizes that she does care for him more than any other guy she has been with, but as a friend.

Here is another picture of Halloween 2, from Rob Zombie’s MySpace. More of Laurie Strode being rushed to Haddonfield General Hospital. She is not looking too well, and Zombie says, “This is the best part of her stay. The worst is yet to come.”

The Twilight franchise is starting to make me realize something about so-called “whiny” horror fans; they may not be as whiny as we think. I know most of you are not following the Twilight mania so let me quickly recap it for you.

Director Kerry Prior (known for his SFX work on Phantasm II & III, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Starship Troopers) was kind enough to send us six exclusive pictures from his new film, The Revenant, a horror/dark comedy set to release in the Fall of 2009. The film stars David Anders, Chris Wylde, Louise Griffiths, and Jacy King. We will be following this one closely, so make sure and check back for more updates, interviews and so on…

Friday the 13th stars Willa Ford and Julianna Guill posed together for Maxim magazine. Check out two of the pictures below.
So what actress’ career do you think will benefit from appearing in the new Friday the 13th movie? My guess is none, but Julianna Guill does have the most upcoming projects with four. I wonder if she appears naked in them all?

I’m pretty sure this is the first picture from Rob Zombie’s Halloween sequel. Rob published this picture on his MySpace along with this message:

I’m open for the debate on remakes, I’ll even listen to both sides of the argument for Friday the 13th, but Last House on the Left (2009) looks like pure shit! The trailer was bad enough, and this two minute clip doesn’t help its case. This looks like some bad high school rendition of Last House, and not because of the young looking CW actors, but because of their awful and unconvincing performances. I’m not saying the original deserved any Oscars, but at least the actors were at least convincing looking scumbags. They should have cast Sheri Moon Zombie in this, she would have made a way better Sadie.
Watch the awful two-minute clip below to see what I mean.

My Editor pointed out to me that last night Ryan Seacrest (or maybe it was Paula) compared American Idol contestant Adam Lambert to Edward Cullen! While Adam has a very goth type feel I really don’t believe he compares to Twilight’s Robert Pattinson. So since I’m sure some Twilight fans are also American Idol fans, I figured we would have another face-off. This times it’s Adam Lambert vs Robert Pattinson. Let us know who you think is the bigger stud in our poll below.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call Odette Yutsman “Hollywood’s Newest Scream Queen,” but Arena magazine did, so I’ll just roll with it. You may remember Yustman from Cloverfield and you may remember her white panties from The Unborn, but besides that her horror credentials are a little bare.

Here is the trailer for director David Gueringer’s new film The Pig People, starring Master P, Lil’ Romeo and that little fat girl from Rob Zombie’s Halloween. The premise is simple; five people decide to shoot a documentary about the half-human, half-pig creatures known as the Pig People. Official Website.

I don’t know how long this will be up, but here is a video of behind the scenes footage from George Romero’s … of the Dead. It was recorded at some unknown film festival where it was originally shown.

I don’t know why news like this gets people excited, unless you hate Megan Fox or are jealous of her ex-Brian Austin Green, and just want to see them unhappy. Lets be honest, Fox being single does none of us any good, because she is not going to be banging any of us in the future. If you’re a glass is half full kind of person, you can pray that she goes through a slutty phase, and a sex tape is released, but that is about it.

Horroryearbook alumni should already be familiar with Ryan Nicholson. He’s an award winning make up artist, writer, director, and all around sick bastard. With over 100 makeup credits to his name and 4 films under his belt as a director, Ryan has become a force to be reckoned with in the extreme horror genre. His latest effort GUTTERBALLS was not only Brain Hammer approved, it also earned a well deserved spot on the horroryearbook top ten list for 2008! I recently had the chance to ask Ryan all about his love of horror and his many projects past and present.
