Gory greeting horroryearbook alumni! This latest edition of PICKS FROM THE CRYPT is dedicated to Jill Schoelen. Jill is one of the more underrated scream queens in my opinion. She appeared in a string of memorable horror flicks including Wes Craven’s Chiller (1985), The Stepfather (1987), Curse II: The Bite (1988), Cutting Class (1989), The Phantom Of The Opera (1989), Popcorn (1991), and When A Stranger Calls Back (1993). Jill has two major assets going for her: she is beautiful, and she is a great actress. I want to be classy in writing this column in hopes that Jill might read it, but I have to go for the cheap laugh. She looks like somebody’s sister… somebody’s sister I would like to fuck. Sorry, I had to say that.
In honor of Jill Shoelen I shall now review three of my favorite flicks that she starred in. LET THE BLOODSHED BEGIN!!!

I really wanted to like Kiss of the Vampire. Being a vampire horror romance it gives it possibilities dealing with morbid complications and great tension pinning on the longing and desiring of what is forbidden. Then there’s always that great questioning of whether this is love we are witnessing on or simple deceptions that show the inevitable nature of a vampire. Not to mention, the vicious lifestyle of a vampire and that power of having eternity on your side. Kiss of the Vampire pretty much ignores all of this along with every other vampire theme and actually most of their characteristics. Why even make a vampire film if you’re not going to do anything with it?

We are getting a lot of interesting news today like a “Gay Horror” film starring Brinke Stevens, Barbara from Night of the Living Dead (Judith O’Dea), Debbie Rochon, Robyn Griggs (One Life to Live), and Jeff Dylan Graham? And I’m not talking about some cheap, softcore lesbian kind of gay; November Son will be available on DVD April 14th from Ariztical Entertainment, who have brought us such classic as, Cannibal Campout and Dana Plato’s Different Strokes. They also boast “a wide variety of LGBT films.”

Paris Hilton wants to let the world know that she is not dumb, she just plays dumb… In real life or on TV? I’m not sure.
“For five seasons I was stuck doing this character. It was kind of hard always having to play that character when it’s not who I am. I just say jokes but they think I’m serious, which I think is funny, and I think I kind of play up the image sometimes because – whatever – it’s just entertainment.”

Since our Women of Underworld Naked was such a huge hit, I decided to try and do it for every new film in 2009. We’re way ahead of the game for the Friday the 13th (February 13, 2009) and Stepfather (October 16 2009) remakes, and I plan to do all the My Bloody Valentine films around Valentine’s Day.

I got an e-mail asking for more information about a film called Bikini Girls on Ice, but I really couldn’t find out much about it. The official website has a trailer and some pictures, but the movie in not available for sale on Amazon, or on Netflix to rent. So that pretty much says it has not been released yet.
