New Horror Short FAMILIAR Creating Quite A Buzz

Toronto filmmaker Zach Green announced his new horror film the Familiar is set to hit the film festival circuit very soon. The film stars Robert Nolan, Astida Auza and Cathryn Hostick as the seemingly idyllic yet ultimately doomed Dodd Family.

“Through a series of tragic events a middle aged man grows to suspect the negative impulses plaguing his mind may not be his own.”

New Clip From Saint: Saint Nick and His Zombie Minions

Check out an all new clip from Saint now available on SundanceNOW.com or in select theaters.

An original and delightfully gruesome slasher film, SAINT re-imagines jolly old Saint Nick as a murderous bishop fulfilling a grisly prophecy under the December full moon. Packed with creative yuletide horror, SAINT is a fun chiller that follows local teen Frank (Weeber) as he sets out on a bloody, high-energy battle to save Amsterdam from the wrathful “Sinterklaas” and his minions.

MIDNIGHT (Arrow Video) – August 29, 2011 (DVD Only)

Affectionately described as “a greasy, grimy, and frequently unpleasant little nugget” by DVD Talk, writer-director John A. Russo’s sordid tale of young runaways, lecherous stepfathers and inbred Satanists, Midnight, comes to DVD for the first time in the UK, completely uncut.

Indie Spotlight: Evade

Our good friend Lee Vervoort is following up his last movie, Gun Town, with the indie thriller Evade. The movie stars Shawn C. Phillips (that fat kid who does those DVD reviews on YouTube aka Coolduder).

Toe Tag Celebrates the 10th Anniversary of August Undrground

Severed Sinema and Toetag are celebrating the 10th anniversary of Fred Vogel’s August Underground on August 27 at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg PA.

They will be screening the August Underground Trilogy (August Underground, Mordum and Penance) with introductions by the filmmmakers and a live performance by Necrophagia.

Bill Moseley and Gunnar Hansen Return to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Lionsgate announced the cast of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.

TCM 3D picks up where the original 1974 Tobe Hooper classic left off. At least it’s not another Platinum Dunes remake!

GUNNAR HANSEN, the original Leatherface who has never acted in another Texas Chainsaw franchise film, is set to appear in a cameo, with MARILYN BURNS, the original film’s lead actress, playing the role of Verna Carson. Reprising his role as the Grandfather, JOHN DUGAN also makes his first series appearance since the original film.

Brett Piper’s Muckman Coming to DVD This Summer

Chemical Burn Entertainment has announced that Brett Piper’s homage to the drive-in classics, Muckman, will be released to DVD on September 20, 2011. Special features will include an audio commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a photo gallery and a trailer show. Check out the poster and trailer below.

Quarantine 2: Terminal DVD Announced

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing Quarantine 2: Terminal to DVD on August 2nd. No extra material has been announced.

Low Budget Zombie Film The Final Night and Day Comes to Blu-Ray & DVD

The Final Night and Day is now available on Blu Ray and DVD from DefTone Pictures Studios. The indie film, which features 1,000 separate zombie make-ups, is the third and most ambitious feature from the Buffalo based production company, following Bitez and Gore. Founding members Adam Steigert and Stephanie Andrews shared writing, directing, producing, and cinematography duties on all three productions, with Steigert editing.

Scream 4 DVD and Blu-ray Details

Scream 4 is headed to DVD and Blu-ray on October 4, 2011. Anchor Bay Home Entertainment didn’t announce any specs or extras in its press release or the trade advertisement shown below. However, Wes Craven did mention a few commentaries via Twitter.

“Recording commentary for the #SCREAM4 DVD with @RobertsEmma, Hayden Panettiere & Neve Campbell. Fun to re-live the shoot.”

Bereavement DVD and Blu-ray Details

Anchor Bay Entertainment announced DVD and Blu-ray releases for Bereavement on August 30, 2011. Special features include audio commentary by writer/director Mena, a behind-the-scenes featurette, deleted scenes, and theatrical trailer.

Evil Things Creeps Onto DVD This August

Five college friends plan a road trip to celebrate Miriam’s 21st birthday during a snowy weekend out of the city at a beautiful, remotely located country home. In the mood to party, Cassy, Mark, Tanya and Leo bring the beer, as well as aspiring filmmaker Leo’s new video camera.

But excitement soon turns to panic and 48 hours later, they’ve all vanished, leaving investigators without a single clue … until now. What Leo captured on video is no tranquil getaway but a sinister and nightmarish descent into terror.
