Xavier Gens’ post-apocalyptic flick The Divide is receiving a theatrical release in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Denver on January 14th. Gens is known for directing the 2007 gritty, yet highly stylized, horror film Frontier(s).

In this graphic and violent, post-apocalyptic thriller, nine strangers—all tenants of a New York high-rise apartment—escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building’s bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment.

It’s the eve of Christmas in northern Finland, and an ‘archeological’ dig has just unearthed the real Santa Claus. But this particular Santa isn’t the one you want coming to town. When the local children begin mysteriously disappearing, young Pietari and his father Rauno, a reindeer hunter by trade, capture the mythological being and attempt to sell Santa to the misguided leader of the multinational corporation sponsoring the dig. Santa’s elves, however, will stop at nothing to free their fearless leader from captivity. What ensues is a wildly humorous nightmare – a fantastically bizarre polemic on modern day morality.

Our good friend Lee Vervoort is following up his last movie, Gun Town, with the indie thriller Evade. The movie stars Shawn C. Phillips (that fat kid who does those DVD reviews on YouTube aka Coolduder).

The film follows a father and daughter who get kidnapped by an unstable family. “I wanted to break away from the typical 20 somethings in a heap of trouble and use a different approach with a new plot twist involved,” said Lee about his new film.

The film is slated for production for early 2012 with a release date to be announced.
