Kevin Costner’s The New Daughter DVD Info

Say it ain’t so… The great Kevin Costner in a direct to DVD horror/thriller!?! Actually The New Daughter had a very limited theatrical run in December and Anchor Bay is releasing it on DVD and Blu-ray May 1. Both discs will feature an audio commentary by director Luis Berdejo, a behind the scenes featurette and a theatrical trailer.

New Daughter follows John James (Costner) as he tries to rebuild his family after a painful divorce. John has his hands full raising his youngest child, Sam (Gattlin Griffith), and especially his adolescent daughter, Louisa.

As Louisa’s troubling behavior continues, far beyond the average tween angst and frustrations, John begins doubting his parental abilities. But when events around the James household start taking on an increasingly mysterious nature, John realizes that his family may be in mortal danger.

Catch a First Look of Robert Rodriguez’s Predators at SXSW

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival has announced Austin-based filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal will present a “First Look” at their upcoming motion picture Predators, at SXSW on March 12, 2010.

The special presentation of Predators will take place at the Alamo Ritz Theater in downtown Austin, at 10:15pm. Doors open at 9:45pm, and the special event is only open to SXSW Badge-holders on a first-come, first-served basis. An audience Q&A follows the unveiling. SXSW Badges are still available for purchase at www.sxsw.com/attend.

Synapse Films To Release The Dorm That Dripped Blood

Here is some exciting news from the revamped (again!) Fangoria website. Synapse Films has acquired the rights to The Dorm That Dripped Blood with “many other exciting titles” that they plan to announce in the next few weeks.

Synapse’s Don May Jr. told Fango, “We’re working with [director/producer] Jeffrey Obrow, and we’ve uncovered his original answer print, which is titled Death Dorm. He believes that when the film was released as Dorm That Dripped Blood, the theatrical distributor did some editing and changed things around, in addition to the name. Our print is the only 35mm version of the film with the Death Dorm title, and it may contain footage that nobody has seen in 30 years.”

2009 Bram Stoker Award Nominees

Each year, the Horror Writers Association presents the Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement in the field of horror writing, named in honor of Bram Stoker, author of the seminal horror work Dracula. Since 1987, the approximately 500 members of the HWA have recommended, nominated and voted on the greatest works of horror and dark fantasy of the previous calendar year, making the Stokers the most prestigious award in the field of horror literature.

Anchor Bay Spits on Your Grave in 2011

Anchor Bay has acquired the rights in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K. and New Zealand, for Steven R. Monro’s remake of I Spit on Your Grave. The flick stars Sarah Butler, Daniel Franzese, Chad Lindberg, Rodney Eastman and Andrew Howard.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anchor Bay Films will give it a limited theatrical release in the fall, followed by a DVD release in the first quarter of 2011.

Official Chain Letter Release Date

UPDATE: New Films International just sent us an E-mail informing us that the May 21st release date is for theaters and not the DVD release date.

In this urban legend riff, six friends receive a mysterious chain letter via text messaging and in their email accounts from a maniac who’s hunting down teenagers who fail to forward his online chain letter. The film stars Nikki Reed (The Twilight Saga), Betsy Russell (The Saw franchise), Brad Dourif (Child’s Play) and Bai Ling (Crank: High Voltage).

The Thing Prequel Gets its First Victims

Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton have joined the cast of Universal’s prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter remake of Howard Hawks’ film, The Thing from Another World… The film was written by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica) and Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street remake) and will be directed by Matthijs Van Heijningen.

Production for The Thing is slated to begin March 15th, 2010 in Toronto.

“Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage.”

The Dead Sheriff Comes to Town

Evileye Books and horror writer Mark Justice are teaming up to bring The Dead Sheriff to life in “original dime novel” and graphic novel format. April will see a series of graphic novels in the style of the sunday comics of the thirties and forties, followed by the the first prose book, The Dead Sheriff: Zombie Damnation, in fall 2010. The Dead Sheriff combines elements of the supernatural, humor and adventure in a framework that models the adventure dime novels popularized as early as 1860.

IFC Films Acquires The Human Centipede

Arrow in the Head got their hands on the first pictures for the new French zombie flick The Horde.

The Vampires of Bloody Island DVD Update

The Vampires of Bloody Island is set to arrive on DVD January 25th in the UK and on February the 1st in the US.
