Since Horror Yearbook has become a hobby and not a job I’ve fallen behind on movie reviews. One of the films sitting on my growing pile of screeners is the Quiroz Brothers’ new horror film Deliverance From Evil. This movie is special because it stars HYB alumn Molly Celaschi. Check out the trailer below, and I promise to have a review soon!
A young east coast couple starting over move to San Francisco with their son. When they lose him in a tragic accident they realize there’s an evil presence that doesn’t want them in their home. Forced to come to grips with the supernatural reality haunting them, they seek the help of a psychic to get rid of the evil spirit. Things take a turn for the worse when the angry presence refuses to leave the neighborhood “haunted” house. Can they escape demonic possession or will they join their son internal darkness?
Deliverance From Evil stars Horror Yearbook’s Molly Celaschi and Jason Voorhees creator Victor Miller.

We Need to Talk About Kevin is more of a thriller than a horror film, but it’s one of those smaller films that should not be missed. Oscilloscope Pictures has announced DVD and Blu-ray releases of We Need to Talk About Kevin for May 29th. So mark your calendars and add it to your Amazon or Netflix want list because HYB highly recommends it. Extras include: Extra footage from the famous “La Tomatina” Tomato festival in Spain, an interview with author Lionel Shriver, 2 featurettes (“Behind the Scenes of Kevin”, “In Conversation – Telluride Film Festival Honors Tilda Swinton”), the original theatrical trailer, and an exclusive essay by psychologist Mark Stafford.

Welcome to St. Jude, a town where rival gangs rule the streets, where the chief of police is a cold-blooded killer, and where citizens have learned to keep their heads down. Then comes out-of-towner Ryan Hong. His vintage car attracts attention. His unbelievable marital arts skills cause a sensation. Sensing a human weapon, the rival gangs bid for Hong’s allegiance. But Hong is committed to honoring an old promise to a mentor he met in prison: that he will “do good” wherever possible. With a lethal combination of street smarts and martial arts, Hong vows to lift St. Jude’s citizens out of fear… even if he must turn into a one-man army to do it.

Brad Miska of Bloody Disgusting and Michael Myers might want to stock-up on some lube, because it looks like Platinum Dunes is ready to rape another horror franchise. BD reported on April Fool’s Day that Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are in talks to take over the Halloween franchise from Dimension Films. I guess ruining the Teenage Mutant Turtles franchise wasn’t enough for the dynamic hack duo.

I’m taking the day off to see The Hunger Games. I plan to beat the screaming tweens and teens by seeing the early show, followed by some shopping and dinner. Even though I’ve been looking forward to this movie for a long time, I’m a little nervous that Hollywood screwed it up. You can read my Five Reasons The Hunger Games Looks Bad here. I have my fingers crossed that I’m wrong and I hope I love it!
