A lot of celebrirties have been dying lately but the only passing that truly hurts to Horror Yearbook is that of Yvonne DeCarlo, one of the grand dammes of horror movies, second only to Shelley Winters as one of the most enjoyable “crazy old ladies”. Of course she’s mostly known as Lillian, the vampire mom on the Munsters and she had a great career as one of the leading Hollywood femme fatales of the forties and fifties. But like many aging actresses left over from Hollywoods heydey she turned to horror movies for work and carved out a niche playing assorted crazy innkeeprs, psychotic grandmothers, snotty rich bitches and such. We particularly loved her in American Gothic, Silent Scream, Vultures, Cellar Dweller, House of Shadows and Mirror Mirror among others. All we can say in our mourning is yes, we do want to be a part of the Clean Plate Club dear Yvonne. We’ll miss you. Say hello to Shelley Winters for us.
