Like a lot of people I stopped watching the Underworld franchise after the first movie. So how can the studio get horror fans like me back in theaters to see a fourth film? By shooting Kate Beckinsale into space.

If this is true I’m so there!

Variety is claiming that Underworld 4 will not only be in 3D but it will boldly go where no man has gone before, by taking the vampires and werewolves into outer space!?! And I say why not? If it is good enough for Jason, the Leprechaun and Coolio (Dracula 3000), why shouldn’t Underworld go for it?

Len Wiseman will direct, and Beckinsale returns for Underworld 4, aiming for a January 21, 2011 release date!

UPDATE: Bloody Disgusting claims: “[Beckinsale] is trying to find a way out of the film — or at least have a smaller role in order to “pass the torch” to one of her kindred.”
