2010 is finally here! Meaning it is time to quit all the “Best of 2009″ crap, and start looking at what the horror genre has to offer fans for the new year.
January starts out with a bang with the vampire flick, Daybreakers, and then quickly falls apart. Non-horror movies of interest include The Book of Eli (January 15) and Legion (January 22). After Dark Horrorfest (January 29) will keep fans busy until February for The Wolfman (Feb 12), Shutter Island (Feb 19), and The Crazies (Feb 26). The “8 Films to Die For” this year include The Reeds, The Fields, Clive Barker’s Dread, The Graves, Lake Mungo, Hidden and the zombie/comedy ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction… With one more to be announced! Platinum Dunes attempts to resurrect Freddy Krueger’s franchise on April 27th and Alexandre Aja brings back Piranha (April 16) in 3D.
Exciting DVD releases include The Wraith special edition (March 2) and House of the Devil finally arrives on February 2nd. Troma fans can start looking for their films on Blu-ray in 2010, and 2009 favorites The Final Destination and Zombieland are both getting the DVD and Blu-ray treatment.
Shout Factory plans to release Humanoids From the Deep (April 13) and the original Piranha (April 6) under their “Roger Corman’s Cult Classics” banner.
Full Moon fans can look forward to Demonic Toys 2 and Puppet Master: Axis of Evil and director Greg Lamberson looks to hit the festival market with the release of Slime City: Massacre.
Judd Nelson and Jennifer Tilly take on The Caretaker (Feb 23), Rick Schroder releases his Sci-Fi Channel original Hellhounds on DVD Feb 16th and I still have my fingers crossed that Dark Night of the Scarecrow will finally get its first DVD release sometime in 2010.
Remember release dates are subject to change and this is just a quick preview of some of the things horror fans can expect in 2010! Happy New Year!
