Megan Fox told The New York Times (via Horror-Movies.ca) that the reason her horror/comedy Jennifer’’s Body bombed was because, “The movie is about a man-eating, cannibalistic lesbian cheerleader, and that pretty much eliminates middle America. It’s obviously a girl-power movie, but it’s also about how scary girls are. Girls can be a nightmare.”
I like to believe that the movie flopped because people are already sick of Diablo Cody, however, I’m pretty sure that it did not flop because it ostracized “middle America.” I’m not sure what Fox considers “middle America” but just because someone believes that lesbians do not have the right to marry, doesn’t mean they don’t like watching them.
I would also like to point out that Fox referring to her character as a “lesbian” is kind of insulting to actual homosexuals. I’m pretty sure the girl-on-girl action in Jennifer’s Body was an attempt by Cody to take a dig at fake “bi-sexual” teens, and not an attempt at making a strong homosexual character. I doubt the lesbian community finds teen girls experimenting with their sexuality aka pretending to be gay for the approval of teen boys as a positive image for lesbians.
While it was a nice try by Fox to make Jennifer’s Body sound more complex than it actually is…In reality the movie was nothing more than a bad attempt by Cody to prove how “witty” she can be once again. Perhaps people were just tired of the old “being a teen sucks” story line, and it is a sign that Cody needs to grow-up and get passed her shitty high school days!
Really? It tanked because it didn’t appeal to middle America? How about it tanked because many people don’t find Megan Fox a good actress and didn’t think she would be believable in the leading role. Some of the critics came out and actually said that she can’t act and that she’s a bad actress. Why would I waste my money on a movie that stars a terrible actress, unlike Juno, which had a great screenplay (hard to believe by the same screenwriter) and a very good young actress in Ellen Page?
If Megan Fox wants to know why her movie tanked she should look in the mirror. Oh, and the reason many women (and men actually) dislike her is because of her incredibly stupid, egocentric comments.
actually I watched it with low expectations…and it surpassed my expectations…maybe it’s an ok movie but everyone just trashed the movie before watching it

If it did tank in the eyes of several people ….It tanked because of envious celebrities.
First of all “tanking” for a movie normally means a low opening weekend. While it is true a lot of movies that “tanked” go on to recover their losses on the foreign and DVD market, Jennifer’s Body has only earned $18,763,528 worldwide. With a $16 million production budget that means it is pretty much a flop.
I loved the movie. It was a great movie. It really showcased her acting talents. I think although that Diablo Cody was the screenwriter, Eli Roth and Quentin Tarantino should have directed it!
to will, the movie did not flop! it maded its money back! it only had a budget of 16 mil. and it made 18 million. you got it all wrong of what a movie flop is!
Flop, failure, whatever you want to call it. Jennifer’s Body was not a successes. Studios do not put out 16 mil to get a 2 mil return.
I dont think it flopped due to Diablo Cody. She’s a fine screenwriter, people are just sick of the Megan Fox hype
