2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hillbillys Renamed

Writer-director Tim Sullivan told Shock Till You Drop that 2001 Maniacs is now being called 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams. The sequel to Sullivan’s over the top remake of Herschell Gordon Lewis’ Two Thousand Maniacs, was originally titled 2001 Maniacs: Beverly Hillbillys.

“I know. It has been very confusing with all the title changes. Bottom line is, when Chris Kobin and Chris Tuffin and I wrote this sucker, the idea was to have the Maniacs travel to California. By the time we made it, we were shooting in Iowa so the title didn’t exactly fit any more,” Sullivan explained to Shock.

Field of Screams follows Mayor George W. Buckman (now played by Bill Moseley) and his Maniacs as they set out West in search of new victims. They soon find new blood in a Reality TV crew who try to exploit them for ratings.
