Paranormal Activity earned an estimated $20.2 million this weekend, making it not quite the box office phenomenon a lot of horror websites were claiming it would be . According to Box Office Mojo the movie “logged the fourth highest-grossing weekend for a movie playing at under 1,000 sites behind the Hannah Montana concert, Borat and Fahrenheit 9/11.” With Saw VI opening this weekend, Activity may have a hard time challenging The Blair Witch for its low budget blockbuster crown. However, its $33.7 million total gross is still pretty impressive for a small film, and it may cut into a piece of the Saw profits this upcoming weekend.
The Stepfather managed to flop with disappointing $12.3 million, while the horror comedy Zombieland managed to stay in the top ten pulling in $7.8 million, helping it surpass the Dawn of the Dead remake as the highest-grossing zombie movie on record.
