Chunks of Bits & Pieces: F13 Part 2 in 2010, Witch of the Blair 3, Let Me Retract In, & Romero’s Night of the Living Novel!

Dunes’s F13 Part 2 Release Date

Platinum Dunes is bringing the walking, teen killing goon back to the big screen once again. Friday the 13th Part II has a release date and, guess what the release date is, you guessed it – Friday August 13, 2010. Besides writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift and with Derek Mears returning to dawn the hockey mask, there has been no other cast announcements.

It’ll only been a year and half between and the remake and its sequel. That is pretty fast – even faster than Michael Myers. It took almost full two years in between Rob Zombie’s Halloween. So, this begs the question whether the short time period will follow true to the original series and will the results equal the same quality.

Blair Witch Returns

I’m not a huge fan of what I think to be the most overhyped movie of all time – The Blair Witch Project. This is only my opinion and it doens’t really matter, does it? Many of those liked the handheld camera bore fest. It had its moments of true fright scenes but the mock documentary was just that – a laughable mocking of a horror film.

With that being said, there is another sequel coming out. That’s right folks, Blair Witch 3 has began with its announcement today. Filmmaker Eduardo Sanchez had this to say to Bloody Disgusting, “Between Dan and me and the Haxan guys that did the original BLAIR WITCH, we are about as far along on a sequel idea as we’ve ever been,” he tells BD. “This is the first idea that Dan and I have really latched onto that we thought, ‘It would be cool.’ It’s a completely different kind of film, but we think it’s in the original spirit of the first one. In the next couple of weeks, something should happen; either a yes or a no or a maybe. I don’t know how we’re going to release the story or whatever, but something’s probably going to happen by the end of the year where we’ll either say, ‘No, it’s not going to happen’ or hopefully, ‘Yes, it’s gonna happen.’ But the news is coming soon.”

Dreamworks Fishy Over Fish Heads….Retracts!

Yesterday, I laid out the news that there was a title change for the remake of Let The Right One In. Let Me In, the remake title, was changed to Fish Head for some odd reason. Dreamworks had thought it over…and thought…and thought some more until they finally decided the stop smoking the reefer.

Once they did all of that, they finally changed the title back to the short, yet summarizing Let Me In title. Thank you, Dreamworks. You are now good in my book yet again. Let Me In’s plot tells the sory of a lonely, school harassed 12 year old young boy who finds comfort an usual, night wandering 12 year old girl who has moved into his apartment complex. What he doesn’t know is that her odd habits are the qualities of a vampire. Let Me In is slated for a January 15, 2010 release.

Romero Rises the Novel Dead!

This, to me, seems like old news but maybe it isn’t. George Romero has been paid $300,000 in advance by UK publisher Headline to write a novel about the living dead called The Living Dead. Well, whaddya know! This all sounds familiar until I get to the premise of the book.

The novel will explain the origins of Romero’s innovated zombie. “the full story behind the living dead: how they came to be [and] what they can and cannot do”. It starts in San Diego, where a corpse sits up and begins to walk during an autopsy, while a reporter from Atlanta shows viewers “glimpses of increasing chaos from around the globe.” Pretty cool…pretty cool.
