Today super “producer” Brad Fuller responded to the “overwhelming response” to the A Nightmare on Elm Street teaser trailer on his official Platinum Dunes blog.
Fuller addressed concerns over the Krueger makeup:
We are continuing to refine Freddy’s look. Many people commented about the CGI on his face – and I don’t want to give everything away but I will say this – Freddy’s face is 98% practical make-up. Moreover, as you now know we went hardcore on what a burn victim really looks like, and I can’t imagine what the comments would have been if he DIDN’T look like a real burn victim.
Jackie Earle Haley’s old man voice:
Jackie spent so much time on the voice, researching what people who’ve has their vocal cords burned sound like. He is still working on it and I suspect that we will be refining it, until the last moment.
But he didn’t talk about the worst part of the trailer, Haley’s “superman sweater reveal!”
The funniest part is even though the teaser trailer received mostly praise on Horror Yearbook and the website Nightmareonelmstreetmovie.com, Fuller’s victim instinct kicked in and he just couldn’t resist the urge to address the “haters.”

We will never be free of haters, but if we can at least present ourselves in an intelligent way we can point out the absurdity of having a negative opinion about something that doesn’t even exist yet.”
It now makes perfect sense why Brad Fuller decided to let the website Bloody-Disgusting host his official Platinum Dunes Blog. The owner of Bloody Disgusting and Fuller are a perfect match. I keep picturing them snoodling, while telling each other, “Everything is going to be OK. Just ignore the haters.” Then skipping off while holding hands to go enjoy some wine coolers together.
It amazes me that a man who runs a successful Michael Bay handout like Platinum Dunes even feels the need to respond to “haters.” And why release a teaser trailer only to turn around and tell us that we shouldn’t judge the film based on it. I always thought that was the idea of a trailer, to let the public know what to expect from a film. Why show us Freddy, then tell us it’s not Freddy. Why let us hear Freddy, then tell us that is not how he sounds. What the fuck is the point of a trailer?
This is some Rob Zombie shit! “Here is a picture of Michael Myers from the film… But that is not what he is going to look like in the film.”
“Here is the teaser poster. Oh wait! That’s not really the teaser poster.”
If the shit isn’t finished stop releasing marketing for it. Problem solved!
Basically Fuller should stop being a pussy and stick by his film. He should also stop trying to make everyone happy. Some people just hate him. A fact he will never change because he keeps shitting on their childhoods every year. If he just stopped responding most of the “haters” would go away. It is the “I’m a horror fan” and “I’m making horror movies for horror fans” garbage that keeps putting a target on his head. He should just bury his head in Mr. Disgusting’s nutsack and ignore the big bad people.
Some people just like to hate. The funny thing about them is that they will spend their money on your film to hate it. Michael Bay should know this and should advise his lapdog to stop being so sensitive.
After reading your article, i had to get in on it. I’m extremely pissed for three main reasons (although i could list more including the confusion of Freddy’s back story and innocents).
1. The fore mention stupid ass Superman sweater reveal. That is the dumbest thing i’ve ever seen. Seriously?!!! OK first off. If Freddy (i use the name loosely) is wearing a Jacket zipped all the way up and a sweater. There better be snow outside.
And why is he pulling off the jacket anyway? oh the fires making it too warm so he figures “Oh it’s getting toasty i better lose some layers”
2. The oh so dumb look of freddy’s freaking face. He looks like Joan Rivers!!! WTF? I love how Fuller said “it isn’t final” and right before that he assured people. His look is 98% make Up and 2% CGI. Which means because people hate the turtle look so much, they have to go back and add about 50% more CGI to the film because production is finished.
3. Finally everyone’s favorite. The VOICE. I mean seriously, there is nothing scary about an old southern dude who forgot his dentures. And the defense was…Oh Jackie wanted to talk like a guy who’s vocal chords were burned and he doesn’t have lips.
That is the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard for a few reasons. First off Freddy is a DREAM DEMON WHO CONROLS THE DREAM WORLD. He can have lips and a voice should he so desire.
But the people on the film want you to believe that Freddy was way too damaged before he got the job of murdering kids in their sleep. One big question that will end this FARCE. If Freddy is so damaged the why are his clothes perfectly in tact? Apparently flame retardant. IF they want so much realism why isn’t Freddy running around naked killing people? I’ll tell you why He’s a DREAM DEMON, and reality has no place in this movie.
