A Nightmare on Elm Street producer Brad Fuller had some interesting words for fans who think Jackie Earle Haley is not worthy of replacing Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger.
Jackie and Clement spent four hours a day painstaking applying all the make-up, appliances, texture before coming to shoot. And when we were all done at the end of the day they had to stay for at least another hour to take it off. For those of you keeping score at home that is 5 hours a day, on top of 12 hour shooting days. Those among you who are so closed-minded that you can’t fathom anyone else playing the role, you are idiots. So much time and effort put into bringing Freddy back and you dismiss him before you’ve seen his efforts, it’s just stupidity. See what we’ve done and then pass judgment; but there isn’t a person out there who can tell me Jackie isn’t a terrifying, inspired, awesome Freddy.
I like that Fuller has decided to change gears from kissing fans’ asses to insulting them, however, I’m not sure how well his new technique is going to work. I guess the pressure of “re-imagining” things is starting to get to him.
In Fuller’s defense, he didn’t call Elm Street Fans idiots, per se. He merely assigned that title to people who disagree with Freddy being re-casted from Englund to Haley. Admittedly, when I first heard of the Elm Street reboot idea, the thought of somebody else playing Freddy didn’t seem like a good idea to me, but having seen Haley’s performances on Little Children and Watchmen, I have little doubt he can pull the roll off. When it comes to the direction, writing, and the rest of the cast, I’m not nearly as optimistic, but I’ll wait until I see the movie to pass judgment.
Seriously, that was a mountain of disdain, and a whole lot of twisting words around to fit your story. Are you sure you wouldn’t be better reporting for Fox News?

First of all, it\’s a remake! so england isn\’t going to be in it in the first place. Second of all, nobody except the cast and crew have seen the new freddy so everyone settle down. You can\’t judge the new freddy because you haven\’t seen him. all of you that are at home crying because he told you that he\’s and awesome freddy and you should shut up, get a life, and stop being a baby. besides, the nightmare series sucks to begin with, especially the recent ones. This remake might be good and it might not.

I just don’t fuckin’ get it. Nightmare On Elm St. has already been made. These idiots aren’t gonna make a movie that’s even comparable to it, regardless of whether or not Robert Englund plays Freddy. Why are people giving these assholes their money to make a movie that we’ve seen before? People need to start not seeing these movies. I hate when I hear someone talking about how they know that a remake is gonna be horrible, then going to see it anyway. I’m all for morbid curiosity, but keep in the realm of car crashes and sideshows. Don’t give these unoriginal douche bags your money. I propose that until we start getting some original ideas, we as horror fans should just boycott any company that puts out a remake of any kind. I mean, there are enough horror movies out there on DVD to watch until these fuckers get their shit together. If you’re gonna complain about these movies then don’t see them, and if you’re gonna see it then don’t complain about it, because you have no one to blame but yourselves. HOLY SHIT. You fucking people who are saying Robert Englund can’t be replaced are fucking stupid. Yes, he is the original, and we hold that dear to our hearts but other people can play freddy. He invented the things we like about that freddy but this is a NEW freddy. People said the same thing about the joker. “No one can replace Jack Nicholson, he is the joker!” Right, look how many of those people were wrong. This is a different freddy, they’re trying to make him more of a scarier freddy. The first Nightmare was great because Wes Craven wrote a scary freddy and Robert brought that to life…the rest of the Nightmares were just jokes. Too many bad punchlines. That’s what made them awesome in a ‘bad-good’way but we’ve all been longing for something new. Jackie is an amazing actor who can bring that to life. Most of you people are dealing with this like it’s a bad break-up. GET OVER IT or don’t watch the movie. It’s a simple as that. But you can’t pass any judgement until you’ve seen it.
It is funny. I remember people saying they never could re-create the Joker and Heath Ledger was going to ruin it. To this day, one of the best acting performances of all time.

I think its a great new direction. I loved Robert as Freddy only in A Nightmare on Elm street 1 and 2, then the rest sucked. I mean he turned Freddy in to some camp freak. I hated that turn.
I am very up for the new Freddy by Jackie, The poster looks amazing along with the photo of him in the film. He looks creepy and he looks like a freddy that is not about to play stupid camp gags.
