Top 100 Movies of 2009

Below is a list of the Top 100 movies by total domestic gross for 2009. Not one horror film cracked the top ten or even the top 20 (unless you want to count Beyonce’s Obsessed), but keep in mind, films like Land of the Lost (#32) cost $100 million to make. The highest grossing horror film, Friday the 13th cost around $19 million to make, that is a HUGE difference. Just because none of this year’s horror films are in the top 25 doesn’t mean they performed badly. It just means films like Star Trek ($150 million production budget) have to rake in a lot more cash to succeed. Also the end of the year is the time for horror movies to shine. So I have a feeling a few more will be joining this list by December.

I underlined all the horror flicks so they would be easier to spot, and highlighted a few surprises in green.
