Fran Rubel and Kaz Kuzui may not be as stupid as we think, because at least they did try to get Joss Whedon to join their asinine project of rebooting the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe. Whedon recently told EW.com:
“I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke,” Whedon says. “I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck.”
The Kuzui Hacks managed to ruin Whedon’s original Buffy script with the Kristy Swanson pile of crap in 1992, and plan to do it all over again, by making a new movie with all new characters. What they don’t realize is it is way too soon for a reboot, and most fans will not embrace a movie that doesn’t have Whedon attached. In a recent poll on EW.com only 3% of people said they would watch a new Buffy film if he was not involved.
In an effort not to be like a stubborn Trekkie fan, I could accept someone remaking the TV show for a younger generation in about 10 years from now. However, this blatant attempt by two losers, to cash in on the fans dedication to one man’s work, is blasphemous. The Kuzui Hacks only did one smart thing in their “careers” and that was allowing Joss Whedon to save the Buffyverse with the TV show. A Buffy reboot at this time will probably go down as one of the worst ideas in film history.
In good Whedon news, he wrapped up his horror film The Cabin in the Woods on May 29 and also talked to EW.com (read here) about Season 2 of Dollhouse.
This is utter crap! No Joss means it wouldn’t even have the same Whedonesq feeling to the characters. After 7 years of the show and then add in the 5 years of Angel, you tend to love the characters you have become fans of. Why on this earth would anyone want to ruin something that has become a Pop Culture hit? This shows the pure stupidity and waste of time and energy on these hacks part. Not one single person I know that loved the show would even be remotely interested in this.
When you reboot a movie, you don’t change the entire character history, that is just assinine. Buffy without the Scoobies would be utter crap! Their is too much history to rewrite. Watching Sarah Michelle Gellar for 7 years playing the part of the angsty vampire slayer would ruin any and all fantasy that has been created. Without the entire cast back again, this idea would be a flop. I feel bad for any performer that signs on to this project.
