Chris Weitz Talks About New Moon

Up until now we have not heard a lot from New Moon director Chris Weitz, but he recently talked to a Canadian paper about his newest film set to hit theaters November 20th.

When asked about complaints towards the Twilight movie not 100% sticking to the books Weitz replied; ” It’s impossible to be completely faithful to every single page of a book because movies don’t have enough time. So you end up cutting things and combining things. But I would say that we’re definitely using the book as our bible.”

He even addressed Stephen King’s column where the author said that Stephanie Mayer’s books had “no substance, nor emotion.”

“The books address the feelings of love and loss that Stephen King isn’t particularly concerned with. (Laughs) I’m not terribly surprised that he says that. I would say, “physician, heal thyself.” Actually, the reason that they’re so successful is that people identify with the main character, with her sense of insecurity, with her sense of being singled out by someone extraordinarily special, with the sense of being broken up with, which is something everyone has experienced unless they are terribly, terribly lucky, and with the deep value of friendship as a way to heal. So I must respectfully disagree with Stephen King.”

It is a pretty decent interview and you can check out the entire article here.

Hilariously bad. The guy says Stephen King isn’t “particularly concerned” with feelings of love and loss? Has he read… um… any one of King’s novels? Love and loss are King’s biggest themes, often quite overshadowing the genre elements he is so associated with in the public mind. Particularly in the novels of the last 10 years or so… Not that Mr. King needs much defending. At least a dozen of his novels will still be being read 50 years from now, when Stephanie Meyers’ ouvre will be regarded as the soap-operatic, sub-Buffy, crypto-reactionary snack food it is. If it is regarded at all…
