Saw 6: It’s A Wrap!

I’m kind of surprised at the lack of Saw propaganda this year. It always seems like they start advertising the films in January and milk it all the way to October. You normally have the official synopsis announcement, poster, Saw Blood Drive poster, Saw auction, Saw website launch… Maybe it is just too early or I have just become numb to it… Anyway the director announced that Saw 6 has finally wrapped up shooting and is being edited for its October 23 release date. Here is what Kevin Greutert had to say:

“After finishing the Saw VI shoot on Wednesday afternoon, I emerged, pale and blinking, into a new world, where the trees had suddenly budded overnight, people were sailing on Lake Ontario in the middle of the week, and I had put my first film production behind me. It was a mighty feeling, and I committed myself to a few days of fucking off and not getting anything done. Between the start of prep on January 8th and the end of shooting on May 13th, I’d lost fifteen pounds, despite the daily noontime tuna melts that endeared me so much to the crew, but between Wednesday and today I’ve gained four pounds back again, and it’s because I’ve returned to the cave where I belong. In other words, I’m in the Editing Room.

Editor Andrew Coutts is doing an amazing job putting together the first cut of the film, which he will be presenting to me next week. In the meantime, I’m finally taking a good hard look at the footage, and making sure that every precious nugget makes it into the final movie. The contrast between the gregarious madness of the set and the solitude of editorial feels like two different universes, and I can’t believe that in my life I’ve spent so much time holed away like this. It’s not human, I tell you! We need to invent a way to edit on the beach…”

I’m way excited to see Saw 6!!! I have all the others leading up to this one and can’t wait to see the end. Honestly these movies are my favorite of all time! It’s because they are so graphic and not corny at all. They give a new meaning to horror. When people used to think of horror films it was always some big boobed girl running up the stairs and then getting killed five minutes later. Now when I think of them I think total shock and I get shivers up and down my spine. Which is the point of a horror film and I thank you for making that happen!

I am excited aswell, however there seems to be some sort of bad vibe that is too hard to explain on why this is going to end up doing the same (or worse) as saw V, and I expected saw V to be the best of the series (it was alright). I guess after a few movies, you just watch them just to continue the saw timeline and not expect the actual horror/gore in them like you used to.
